Zip it! [:#] Login Issues Tech Guide - Read Me First

    Greetings from Customer Support Staff,

We have recently released the emergency patch v.43 which should resolve a majority of login issues.  Here are a few more suggestions in case your issue has not been resolved:

    1)      If you still have problems with the patcher, we suggest removing the current version of Maplestory installed and downloading a new client.  You may also need to download the manual patcher.  Both can be found in the Game Download section at http://maplestory.nexon.net/

    2)      Close any extra applications before starting the game as they may interfere with MapleStory and GameGuard. If you do not feel comfortable turning off your firewall or antivirus, we suggest you configure them appropriately to allow MapleStory.

    3)      Run a Virus/Spyware scan on your system to make sure that it is clean. Malicious programs can interfere with the game and compromise the security of your account.

    4)      Please make sure that you have DirectX 9.0c or better and that your video card drivers are up to date. More information about DirectX can be found in our Game Download section at http://maplestory.nexon.net/

For nVidia video card drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

For ATI video card drivers: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

    5)      Please make sure that Windows is configured to allow the execution of MapleStory. To verify this, click on your Start menu, Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance (if applicable) and then double click on System. Select the Advanced tab and click settings in the performance section. Once there, select the Data Execution Prevention tab and make sure that MapleStory is added if the second option is selected. Also make sure to click Apply and Ok if you make any changes.

    6)      MSVCP71.dll and MSVCR71.dll are files necessary for some applications to work properly. Normally, your computer would have these files located in the C:\Windows\System32. If you do not have these files, please search your Windows install software and copy the files to the folder mentioned earlier.

    7)      If all you see is a black screen or you get disconnected every time you enter the game, browse to your MapleStory folder and run the Setup.exe. You will be prompted with a question. Click NO and the setup will run through various frequencies and attempt to find one that works for your monitor. When you see the MapleStory image during the test, press ALT-H to notify the setup that you are able to see it. Outdated video drivers can also cause this; refer to #2.

    8)      If you are entering your pin incorrectly the game client will close itself.  If this is occurring please make sure you are entering the correct pin assigned to your account.  If you are unable to do this then please submit a ticket requesting assistance with a pin reset.

    9)      In the event that you have Windows Vista, please right click on your MapleStory icon and select Properties. Once in the Properties, click on the Compatibility tab, check the box that says Run this program in compatibility mode for:, select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the drop down menu and click Apply. For best results, make sure to log on your computer as an administrator. While this solution will usually help MapleStory function under Windows Vista, please remember that it is still not fully compatible and may result in additional problems which we will be unable to help with.

    10)   If you created your account at http://www.mapleglobal.com, you should be using the Official MapleStory client. We license out MapleStory to licensees in South Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Europe. Because we must protect our licensees' interests, we must block users from those licensed regions from playing on MapleGlobal servers. If you are trying to play MapleStory with a game client from an area mentioned above, you won't be able to play MapleStory Global.

We are also aware of following issues and are working on a resolution for them, though we currently do not have an ETA on when this will happen:

    1)      Issues with European accounts created since May 23rd.  We are investigating this issue to determine what we will be able to do, as this was the original date when the EU IP block was to be enforced.

    2)      Various issues relating to some of the new cash shop items as well as in game weddings.

If this does not help resolve your issue, or your issue is not covered, please submit a new ticket (click here for more information on submitting a ticket), in the correct category, with as much information concerning the issue as possible.  This will help us to narrow down a suitable resolution.  You can also find a more detailed post on technical issues at: http://forum.nexon.net/MapleStory/forums/thread/128787.aspx.
