    economy

im still sorta new at the forums(I havnt really been in them since before windia was added) but anyways im sure that i share the same concern for the economy as most people do but i think the reason the econmy is so bad is there are too many mesos in the system and although this may be a great way for people to finally gte money without having to gacha or other various thing i think that the lmpq is the source of the problem. If you sit down and think about how many million more mesos are put into the system every hour it sort of makes sense this way when 8att work gloves are raised 1mil people will still be able to buy. this process has gottten out of hand and there are not enough things taking mesos out of the system. Either way i hope ive made my point here and i would like some feed back if possible thanks and happy mapling

    Re: economy

The biggest problem for the maplestory economy isn't inflation. Sorry to burst your bubble, but just because a bunch of ignorant children who have no understanding of economics say thats the case does not make it true. The problem is also not simply a function of supply and demand as some even less informed people often claim. The fact is no one outside of Nexon's DBA's (data base administrators) and officials who recieve reports from them have access to the information on the total amount of meso or any given item in any server needed to accurately track inflation or supply vs. demand. I'd like to address the LMPQ for a second granted a person can rake in some hefty meso there but the number of ppl who do that pq is way smaller thnn it used to be and the meso 10 ppl can get there in 1 hour doesnt add up to half the meso an archmage spends in potion in the same time so you can pretty much rule it out as the source of all economic turmoil. Now there is exactly no way to track inflation, but if you want you can get an idea of supply vs. demand by checking the FM and MTS. If you look around a bit though you will see that for most items in the game there is 0 shortage of supply. While you look around if you keep in mind what you think is a reasonable price you will see based on the numbers of unpurchased items that there is no overwhelming demand.  For those of you who have been with the maple community for any length of time the problem should be easy to see whether you understand economics or not. There are several merchanting guilds that maintain a deathgrip on the first few FM's by botting spots and d/c'ing ppl not using stand-alone-stores (elf, teddy, etc) and control the economy through speculation. One tactic they use:Step:1 have members buy in bulk items in FME, PQ's, and next to gachapons while others constantly scour the fm for newly opened stores and snatch up nearly all bargains Step: 2 park a few members in fm 1 with ridiculous prices on every item, some of which will actually sell at amazing profit. Step: 3  park equal numbers in the next 5 FM's marking prices down a little at a time (2% less in fm 2, 3% in 3, and so on) thus effectively setting the prce. Some of them even work together and alot of them sell mesos and advertise. i may say more later after im flamed......

    Re: economy

Very nice way to explain the problem in the Maple economy. However, not many will understand that it boils down to the players willingness to play these prices. If the masses take the stand that they will do without until they a. locate the item through a monster drop, b. get it from another player, or c. find it at a reasonable price, things will change. This is a game, we do not have to pay these prices or have these items in order to survive. Wanting something now, and paying the price, whatever it may be has been a major, contributing factor to the inflation in Maple Story.

    Re: economy

Guy #3 is the closest to the "problem."  And I use the term loosely, flanked by quotation marks, because I don't necessarily believe there is a problem.

People pay what an item is worth to them.  If I shop around, I can find steel ore pretty easily at a good price, or can sell my steel ore pretty easily for a good price.  But if I want 50 steel ore right now, in bulk, and don't want to dicker around looking for good buys, and I want to get back to the game as quickly as possible, I'll pay more.  And if I'm in a hurry to unload a bunch of ore and free up some inventory space, I'll sell cheap just to be rid of it.  However, it doesn't matter how many mesos are pumped into the system or what a good piece of equipment is selling for.  I will never, ever, get ten million mesos for a piece of steel ore.  That hunk of ore just doesn't -do- enough to be worth that much, even if I'm totally loaded and have ten trillion mesos to my name.

But replace my steel ore with a rare item, that there's a snowball's chance in heck that I'll ever get from a drop, and you get something I'll easily pay ten million for, if not more.  But even that rare item has a limit.  There comes a point where the other stuff I can get for my 20 million mesos is worth more to me than a weapon with 2 attack better than my current weapon.  Sure, if I'm level 200 with mesos to spare and nothing worth spending my money on, heck, I might buy that rare scroll or weapon that's a smidge better than what I'm using now for more money than anybody else will be able to pay.  Luckily, there aren't very many level 200 trillionaires in that position.

For the most part, prices are limited by what people are willing to pay.  Dump ten trillion mesos into the system, and prices might go up a little bit, but only because people are willing to pay them, when they wouldn't have been willing pay them earlier, until they had the extra cash.  I won't give you my last ten million for that staff, but I might give you ten million for that staff if I have another ten million to spend on potions and scrolls after paying you.
