Email [E] Technical Issues – Read Me First

Included in this guide is a list of common issues players have reported.

    Patcher Issues

If you are having patching issues make sure your computer account is set to administrator. A limited user account cannot write or modify information such as allowing MapleStory to finish patching.

    (3/3) Creating: Base.wz

When MapleStory servers are up and ready for players to patch, the servers are hammered by players downloading. Upon reaching Creating: Base.wz, please be patient.

If Base.wz does not patch after a few moments, cancel the patch and download the manual patcher from our website - http://download.mapleglobal.com/download/FullVersion/ManualPatch.exe.

This manual patcher is only available for users patching from the last client to our newly released client. Older versions of the client will not be supported by the manual patcher. To use the manual patcher, download it and double-click on the .exe. Select the folder where the game is installed. For most users, this folder is C:\Nexon\MapleStory. If you receive an error (maplestory.exe not found), please select the correct folder.

If the manual patcher does not work, you will need to reinstall the client. Please make sure to save all the files you wish to save from your currently installed client such as screenshots. Next, download the client from our website - http://maplestory.nexon.net/WZ.ASPX?PART=/Downloads/GamePatches and remove MapleStory from your computer by accessing the Control Panels -> Add/Remove Programs. After removing MapleStory from your computer, make sure to restart your computer. Once MapleStory is re-installed, launch the program and everything should work. If you encounter any other issues, please read through the guide for other suggestions.

    Localized versions of MapleStory

If you created your account at http://www.mapleglobal.com, you should be using the official Global MapleStory client. We also license out MapleStory to licensees in South Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and now including Europe. (http://www.maplestory.com) New registration from Europe after May 23rd, 2007 will not be able to play on the Global servers.

Because we must protect our licensees’ interests, users from those licensed regions are blocked from playing on MapleGlobal servers. If you are trying to log on the Global servers from the country/region mentioned above, you won’t be able to play.

    MapleStory on Macs

Currently, we do not offer support on Apple Operating Systems. Please check our website for the latest updates and/or announcements.

Unable to connect to the login server.

Either you are not online or MapleStory is going through a server check. Please check the MapleStory homepage for more information.

First, be sure that MapleStory is currently not going through a server check. You can see if there is a server check by going to our MapleStory homepage at http://maplestory.nexon.net/. If there isn’t a server check and you still get the error, you will need to check your connectivity. Make sure your network connections are enabled. Also, the client may not be able to connect due to a firewall and/or virus protection preventing it. If you are running a firewall and/or virus protection, either disable it or set MapleStory on the allow list. Restart your computer after you made changes.

    Running MapleStory on Windows Vista

MapleStory does work on Windows Vista but not to its optimal performance. One suggestion to have MapleStory compatible with Windows Vista is setting the compatibility of the program. Right-click your shortcut to MapleStory or the exe file, select Properties, and click on the Compatibility tab. Once you have selected the tab, check the box Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows XP in the drop-down menu. We also suggest that you restart your computer after applying the changes. MapleStory should work once these changes are applied.

    Gr2D

MapleStory uses a 3D graphic engine. If your video card does not support 3D graphics, you will not be able to enjoy the world of MapleStory. If your video card does support 3D graphics and the issue persists, please be sure you have updated your video graphics/display card drivers to the most recent version available and the latest Direct X driver. For information on updating your drivers, please contact your PC’s manufacturer or the manufacturer of the video card.

After any changes to your computer, please be sure to restart.

Error 1335 - The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used

During the downloading process or during installation, the client was corrupted. Our suggestion is to restart your computer and re-download the client at

    http://maplestory.nexon.net/WZ.ASPX?PART=/Downloads/GamePatches

Please refrain from using download accelerator/segmenter programs as it may corrupt the file. We also recommend not using any other programs that access the internet while your download is in progress should you encounter this issue.

A hacking attempt has been detected and MapleStory will be closed

We recommend that you check if any Firewalls or Internet Security programs are running (by this meaning Norton Antivirus, Mcafee Virus Protection, etc.). If you have any program that blocks the connection between the client and our server, we advise you to turn them off. If you are uncomfortable with turning off your firewall and/or virus protection, please configure it appropriately to allow MapleStory. Should the issue continue, please scan your PC for viruses, Trojans, spyware, etc. or for any illegal programs that may have been installed. Restart your computer after any changes.

Error code: -2005532292 (Unknown error code 0x8876017C)/Error code: 2005530585 (Unknown error code 0x88760827)

This an error is result of your computer trying to play MapleStory. Normally, it is from incorrect Display drivers or an outdated version of DirectX. To determine the currently installed display drivers installed in your PC, right click on any empty space on your Windows Desktop, and select properties. Then click the Settings tab. Below the image of the Monitor, it will say Display: and the name of the currently installed driver. If this driver does not match the hardware you have installed, you will need to update the driver. Please contact your PC’s manufacturer or the video card’s manufacturer for information on installing an updated driver.

If you do not have the latest version of Microsoft DirectX, you can also download it from our website - http://maplestory.nexon.net/WZ.ASPX?PART=/Downloads/GamePatches

Restart your computer after any changes.

Connection lost due to system error

This error is the result of an IP block. Nexon has licensed out MapleStory to licensees in South Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Europe. (Check http://www.maplestory.com for more information on localized versions.) MapleGlobal was created for countries/regions that do not have their own version of MapleStory. Because we must protect our licensees’ interests, we must block users from those licensed regions from playing on MapleGlobal. If you are trying to play our game from the countries/regions mentioned above, you will not be able to play Global MapleStory.

    Black Screen

On launching MapleStory the screen just blacks out and disconnects me after awhile.

This issue may erupt from monitor frequencies MapleStory does not play on. To find a frequency for your monitor, browse to your MapleStory folder and run the Setup.exe. You will be prompted a pop-up stating:

This program sets your monitor frequency up for MapleStory. Please run this program if your screen turns pitch black, or if you see a warning on your monitor on exceeding the range of frequency of your monitor. When the game starts, are you able to see the game clearly?

Click NO and follow the instructions.

MapleStory just doesn’t load when I open it

I patched. Everything was working fine. GameGuard loads but the client won’t launch.

With this issue, we suggest that you find and open the MapleStory client folder. Located inside the folder is a folder titled GameGuard. Next, delete the GameGuard folder. Once you have deleted the folder, restart your computer. After your computer loads, go ahead and launch MapleStory. GameGuard should patch and MapleStory will load.

    Altered Game Play

If you feel your game play has been altered in anyway and it does not resolve itself, please immediately exit the game and restart your computer. If the issue persists, submit a ticket to our Customer Support System by logging onto our (http://maplestory.nexon.net/), click on the Support menu located on top and select Email of Inquiry or Contact Us. Please include a full detailed account of your issue so the CS/GM agent can better assist you.

    GameGuard Errors

    Error 114

Programs you have currently running are conflicting with GameGuard. First, we advise you to restart your computer. If the issue reoccurs, GameGuard may be blocked by a firewall and/or anti-virus protection programs. Please disable these programs or set it to allow MapleStory/GameGuard. Restart your computer after any changes.

    Error 340/380

These errors occur when GameGuard cannot connect or update to the GameGuard server. Please make sure your connection is working or disable/limit any programs that may interfere with GameGuard. Such interference may result from firewalls and/or virus protection programs. If GameGuard refuses to patch or looks like it patched but still doesn’t work, we suggest that you find and open the MapleStory client folder. Located inside the folder is a folder titled GameGuard. Next, delete the GameGuard folder. Once you have deleted the folder, restart your computer. After your computer loads, go ahead and launch MapleStory. GameGuard should patch and MapleStory will load.

If none of the recommended actions help and the issue persists, please submit a ticket to our customer service system. You can log a ticket by logging onto the website (http://maplestory.nexon.net/), click on the Support menu located on top and select Email of Inquiry or Contact Us. . Please include a full detailed account of your issue so the CS/GM agent can better assist you.

In addition, if there were any other methods that weren’t addressed go ahead and suggest them. Any issues that weren’t listed above please note them here. I will update this accordingly. Thank you.

Re: Technical Issues – Read Me First

Yeah, I have one that I'd like to know how to fix, and you'll notice it's very common, namely that ever since the latest patch, many people have been unable to login, we get far enough to see our characters floating and our status bars and such if we're lucky, then it just fades to black like we were being logged off, and it exits to the desktop, no hacking attempt message, no connection lost message, nothing! I have tried everything I can think of, closing all other programs, running disk check, disk clean, disk defragment, spyware scans, virus scans, I've uninstalled and reinstalled MS over 50 times and nothing works! When I submitted an e-mail of inquiry telling them this, they just responded suggesting I do all the things that I told them I did! What use is submitting a ticket if they don't seem to read the entire thing huh? I'd just uninstall the program and never even think about playing again, except I paid good money on your cash shop, and had planned to spend more today because my wife and I were going to get married on MS for our anniversary! I've waited patiently for something to be done about this, it took over a week just to FINALLY get that useless reply to my e-mail of inquiry, and my patience has officially run out, I've lost over a week of my time before my Nexon items expire, our anniversary has been ruined, and I demand some answers!

Re: Technical Issues – Read Me First

A lot of people have posted that after selecting a charactor the game appears to load... but no icons or anything load with it (so no cash shop button or anything else in that menu below).  Will the solution for black screen work with this as well?  Or is this a seperate issue?  It's happened to me maybe once, but I just restarted the game and it worked fine the next time.  One of my friends had it happen maybe 35% of the time and more RAM fixed it for him.

Re: Technical Issues – Read Me First

No, it doesn't. None of the fixes work, and trust me, I'd have bought more RAM long ago if I could afford it, however I am not that rich.

Windows 2000, I refuse to downgrade to Windows XP, or worse yet, Windows Vista.

Re: Technical Issues – Read Me First

Reimbersing me for the time between when it first started when the newest patch went live, and if or when the issue is finally resolved would be a good start, I paid good money for my cash shop items and I'm not particularly happy that they're getting closer and closer to expiring when I can't even play.

Re: Technical Issues – Read Me First

Can you include instructions for people whose patch freezes on 2/3 or 3/3 in here?  It seems these questions pop up frequently after every patch.

    Thank you.

Re: Technical Issues – Read Me First

I posted this like 100 times....3/3 means it is patching the data and is no longer downloading....Also, Hime, any word on whether Nexon will make MS compatible with the Mac OS?
