When I first made my character years ago, I didn't give earning mesos any specific thought. I just played, did the quests, PQs, trained at the common spots, making sure to loot all drops and avoid buying luxury equipment. During all that time, I only kept racking up more and more mesos, never having any problem at all paying for necessary weaponry and basic potions.
Now, though, everything is different. Any server that has been around for a long time will suffer from gradually huger and huger inflation, and all the patches that have influenced MS since years ago have made it easier to level up but harder to maintain your income while doing so. Fast training comes at the price of increased expenditure, and many newer characters on a server that don't have the means of funding are suppressed by the rich merchant accounts who provide their own characters with godly low level equipment and free leeching.
Basically, you could say that it hasn't become harder to level up, earn mesos and become succesful; but compared to everyone else that has had a head start on the server, you will be going through a much tougher and slower time because of the lack of being able to keep up with neverending inflation. You will have to focus on getting common-trade items such as scrolls from quests and PQs in order to catch up since normal mesos and NPC drops that you get from monsters will be all the more worthless the older the server is.
The term "wall of text" only applies to ignorants who do not bother to read their opponent's mostly perfectly valid arguments before immaturily attempting to counter them.
