Nexon recently introduced more medals to the system, and I think they started off on the wrong path with these things.
Now this is gonna be fairly long piece of passage, but let me tell you, it's worth it. For what it's worth, think of this as a guide to a PQ that you need to know about.
Please read and don't forget to comment.
First, why the new medals aren't worth much to maplers:
- You can only wear one medal at a time.
- There are too many medals and they are all untradeable, which means the equip inventory will fill up with medals that won't be equipped.
- The medal you were will appear before your name everytime you smega, which many maplers, including myself, find it very annoying and space-consuming when it appears in the chat box.
- The medals are too few and are diverse in the stats they give, making it very hard to choose between them.(This might not make sense right now but at the end of this it will)
Second, I noticed that if you check a char info, you can see his/her progress in acquiring the medals. This can be preserved or even enhanced.
Third, my solution:
The solution is simple and is advantageous to both, maplers and nexon.
Instead of using the equip inventory to store the medals, create another inventory(or a single equip) that can store medals. This Medal Inventory/Equip(MIE) has an initial size of 12 slots (can be expanded permanently through NX maybe 2k instead of 4k per 4 slot expansion). The MIE stores all the medals obtained through the Dalair and by just being in the MIE, the stats on the medal would be applied to the character. Read the last bullet point above. The more the number of medals there is, the more stats a char can have (since the stats would be cumulative) and the more NX nexon would sell for this...
There will be issues here from both sides and I will try to adress them all (If you think I missed something, please point it out for me).
1- The stats of the current medals are too high, for example if you were to equip all the adventurer medals, you would receive some 500 HP and MP, that's not to mention the other medals that can be equipped, so the stats of all medals(or some i guess) must be reduced, but in the end, the total stats gained from equipping multiple medals would be greater than any one of those of the current medals.....but that is if a lot are to be equipped, not just 4 or 5 medals.
2- In order for the medals to be fair to all job classes, there should be a choice of stats when it comes to receiving a medal that has some +1 of the four ability points (DEX, LUK, INT, STR) so a mapler can choose the ability point he wants, unless an equal amount of stats is awarded so +1 or +2 of all (EDIT: someone pointed out that giving equal amounts of stats gives a particular advantage to NLs and mages because of damage formula, so maybe some more DEX and STR on some would even that out ~ Thanks Alexis91). This increases the number of medals that would be kept, which means more stats and more expansions.
3- I suggest having different levels for each type of medal. For example, The veteran hunter medal requires 1,000,000 in a 30 day period. Sounds far from reach for many people, especially those who don't play very often. So levels would be like getting 100,000 in 30 days first. Then after acquiring the medal you can attempt level 2, 250,000 kills in the same time period. The higher the level, the more the stats. I think some 3-5 levels per medal type should be ideal. This can also be done for the other medals, like the celebrity and the quest specialist and even all the other medlas if you think about it. However, a medal of any type with a higher level cannot be obtained or attempted before the lower level is obtained. Meaning you HAVE to finish Veteran Hunter level 1 before starting that for level 2. Don't worry that's not 1 level every month, because as soon as you get the required kills before the time limit, you can get the medal and the same goes for the rest. The only exception would be explorer medals, which can be all started and completed at once and do not have any level (or maybe just 1). (Point 4 adds some enhancements to this)
4- The problem with this is the conversion between the two models........not what you expected huh? Think for a sec.... If you have a medal for let's say celebrity, then after the patch that installs this model (hopefully it will), then there should be no reason for that medal to stay. Actually, it should be deleted from the maple items, since acquiring this medal would give extra advantage to their holders. But then again...deleting it would make their holders go crazy after working hard for obtaining it....I think people who already have the veteran hunter medal would probably punch their computers, but anyways solutions?? Nexon should create a record (at least a patch before they install this model) that will hold the maximum number of kills, fame, etc that a person obtained, so then you can obtain all the medals(still one by one according to level) but without redoing the quests everytime. So if you the veteran hunter, 1,000,000 will be recorded and when you login after the patch that will install this model, you can obtain level 4 without killing a single moster. This can also serve as a single step to a high level medal which would eliminate all the tiny steps(described in point 3) should a mapler wish to take a single go at it and since the time periods are the same, I don't think it matters. So if you're doing Veteran Hunter level 1 and u decide to go all out and kill 1,000,000 instead of 100,000 then when you're done(if you're done) you could get all the medals without having to go through levels 2 and 3. However, if you get 890,000 then u can't receive level 4 medal, but rather just able to receive level 3 and you have to redo the killing of monsters till you get 1,000,000..... catch my drift?
5- To avoid people equipping the heavy medals first (the ones with most desirable stats) without wanting to spend NX, then one more rule must be added. A character must equip the lower level of a type of medal before equipping the higher levels. One more rule, a medal cannot be thrown, unlike untradeable, in the sense that once you get the medal, the medal is stuck in your inventory and can't be removed.....no one throws away an honorary medal. This means you can never lose an award once you get it....this includes the donor medal, whose system is flawed.
6- Time-outs from server checks and updates should be compensated for after they are over. Also, for the char info, the medal AND level can now be present, better....no??
Fourth, I will suggest some medal levels just as an example: G.E. = Greater than or Equal to, I would use >= but it looks like an emoticon
Veter Hunter: Celebrity: Quest Specialist:
- 100,000 kills level G.E. yours in 30 days 100 fame in 30 days 100 quests(no time limit)
- 250,000 kills level G.E. yours in 30 days 250 fame in 30 days 200 quests(no time limit)
- 500,000 kills level G.E. yours in 30 days 500 fame in 30 days 400 quests(no time limit)
- 1,000,000 kills level G.E. yours in 30 days 1,000 fame in 30 days 800 quests(no time limit)
- 10,000,000 kills any level in 30 days 30,000 fame (no time limit) 1,000 quests(no time limit)
Outstanding Citizen: Pet Owner:
- Having 50+ buddies Owning a pet with 1,400 closeness
- Having 100 buddies Owning a pet with 16,000 closeness
- Joining a guild with 50+ members(including yourself) Owning a pet with 30,000 closeness
- Joining a guild with 100 members(including yourself) Owning 3 pets with a total of 50,000 closeness
- Getting married Owning 3 pets with 30,000 closeness each
Donor medal gets deleted from your inventory every month and is not really favourable in that sense. First, even if we allow people to keep it permanently, then there can be only 12 people (not much as compared to the number of people that can achieve this with the new model) with medals from a certain area per year. Second, it skips most of the rules I placed above. Third, remember that the whole point of the donations is to remove money from the game to reduce inflation, so we need to keep the money flowing out, but again remember that the current model allows someone to receive the donor medal without going for all the other areas for medals. I suggest that there is a meso limit for each area and anyone that meets this limit gets the medal. This is a level scheme for the Donor medals.
- Lith Harbor....................10mil
- Heneysys......................20mil
- Nautilus........................30mil
- Ellinia...........................40mil
- Perion..........................50mil
- Kerning City..................60mil
- Sleepywood..................70mil
- Orbis............................80mil
- ElNath..........................90mil
- Aquarium....................100mil
- Korean Folk Town........110mil
- Ludibrium....................120mil
- you can always add all the towns and cities like Magatia, Ariant, Leafre, Malaysia, Zipangu, New Leaf City, and any other place that I missed and any other city that they will build pretty much and also change the order in which they're placed. P.S. if you haven't noticed, the donor medals exceeds the initial limit on the MIE. And besides, this way maplers can take their time collecting their money.
EDIT: The medal that you want to appear under your name is the first medal in the MIE.
Please provide a rating (out of 10) for this idea, and please specify any weaknesses or stress any particular strengths you like to this model. Please bring up any questions that you might have that I haven't answered throught the text. If you want me to make a level scheme for any medal that I missed, please post the name of the medal.
Thank you for reading all of this. Hope you like it.
