    The Maple Mentor Program

Some of us remember when MapleStory was in Beta and then the first anniversary, the second, the third and now the fourth year anniversary is just around the corner. Then there are some of us that just heard about this world of MapleStory and decided to join us.

Sure MapleStory is a 2D side-scrolling massive multiplayer online role-playing game but those cute mushrooms may not be as friendly as they seem. That’s where the Maple Mentors come in. They are you-- top level players suggested by you, recruited by Nexon, to help beginners with questions and offer them tips to fully enjoy this wonderful world of MapleStory.

Let me me introduce to you your Maple Mentors; those decided to make your Maple experience as enjoyable as theirs. Below is a little introduction they wrote so please welcome our Maple Mentors to the forum community!

    Kurai

Kurai started an online game called Maple Story when his friends introduced him to it. At first, he did not like it. As days went by, everything became so much more interesting. "KURAI!!!!!!!!111", everyone screeaaaaaaamedddd. "OMGGGGGGGG WOOOOOOOOWWWW KURAIIIIIIIII??? OMGGGGG O.O..... wth LOL!11", everyone shrieked/moaned... They treated him like he was like an aquarium sea creature (..or a MapleStory celebrity) that they have not feasted their eyes yet upon in their life-time before. But! He did not always spend his entire time training because he did not care if he was famous or not. He met many friends along his journey and chilled with them as their bonds grew stronger. He just wanted to have fun on MapleStory! After all, aren't games meant for fun? ;)

    AngelWingsAB

AngelWingsAB is a Level 200 Bishop and 1st gen Mapler from Bera. Her credits include Top 20 GMS, Top 10 Bera and her own NPC in Elliana. She has a passion for new challenges in MS, leading events and helping her friends along the way.  It's with pride and honor she accepts the new title of Maple Mentor and promises to do her best to serve you.

    Dylanlan

Dylanlan was once a low lvl assassin in Maplestory. Through time and dedication, he grew to become one of the highest lvled Nightlords. He still trains from time to time, and spends his days helping new players out with questions and advice.

    Zimlicious

Zim was the first level 200 in Kradia on MapleStory. He helped the server grow by MTS merchanting, organizing boss runs and getting people together as a community that trusts each other. In his free time, he enjoys reading the forums and occasionally gives advice to other players.

    CriticalLag

CriticalLag has been active in MapleStory since he learned to "Double Shot" back in 2005. These days, he enjoys Strafing and F2ing. As an enthusiast, he revels in learning about the game and passing that information out to the community. His infamous words of wisdom: "Remember, lag kills!"

Feel free to post your questions about MapleStory on this thread and the Maple Mentors will do their best to help you. Even if you don’t post your question here they may find you and help you anyways! Who better than to answer your questions than the top level players!?
Read this thread would you kindly?

You will be banned and then there would be ham.

Post it. Ban it. Lock it.

Nooby questions on Shout, please forgive :)

    Welcome everyone!

I try to answer some questions here but I know I also have much to learn (don't we all, lol). I can't wait for some educatin' !

OK, about the crusader skill Shout:

Am I really going to use this? I understand that it's range is awesome, but from what I understand about it's numbers, it's damage is going to be pretty low. Right now I'm mobbing just fine using Slash Blast and Coma and I just don't see how Shout is going to be better or faster.

    Thanks!

Re: Nooby questions on Shout, please forgive :)

    Hello :)

Although I am not one of the Maple Mentors I have been around this game long enough to observe things lol.

I have never made a Crusader myself, but from what I've seen, Shout's ability doesn't lie in its damage but in it's ability to stun monsters. From someone who has a Buccaneer, I know that most of the classes higher damage comes from being able to stun monsters (even if the damage from the skill isn't all too great).

When I used to train with Crusaders at gobies I remembered they would use Shout a number of different ways. Sometimes they would use it to stun the goby house so it didn't weapon def up, other times on the gobys that busted out of the house and then quickly use Coma to kill them all quickly, or on bone fish that were being an annoyance to prevent taking damage from them as well as not having them weapon def up as well.

I think Shout will help you reduce your pot usage at least from magic attacks since they'll be stunned. I don't think it's a skill you want to work on until after you have a siginifcant amount of points into combo, coma, and panic, but it's definitely a skill worth throwing points into.

    Hope this helps :)

Re: Nooby questions on Shout, please forgive :)

    That did help.

So Shout is going to be a strategic skill? I'll have to expirement with it a little. I wonder if I have the patience to learn how to use it well Embarrassed

    Thanks

    New monster book

I was just playing maple story trying to get as many monster cards for my monster book.  But then I looked at the last page of the monster book and noticed that it showed all bosses on that page.  One of the bosses was "King Slime (PC)" what does the (PC) mean?  I also wanted to know...  Being that I am level 101, how am I supposed to get monster cards from other bosses sucks as "Alishar", "Papa Pixie", and "Lord pirate" since they are party quest bosses and the party quests have a max level limit.  This is only a problem because the monster book came out after I had already passed level 100.

Shout is actually really helpful. If you're training on a monster that does a lot of damage, but gives a fair amount of exp, it helps enormously. If you can stun a monster, and kill it with-out running into it, you'll never lose a drop of HP. And, when Shout is maxed, I believe the stun length is 10 seconds, which, is pretty good.

     The idea sounds great. ;]

Well it seems clear that we can't get them during PQ after passing the lvl.

It's possible (though it seems unlikely) that the fake bosses would drop the card so they could be obtained during events for fake bosses (and I think it's unlikely since all the other drops are different they would likely have their own card seperate from the real boss).

It's possible to obtain cards from monsters summoned from summoning sacks or during events.  (So show up for summoning events.)

And nexon could (though I think this is very unlikely) allow higher lvls to complete the pq (maybe only on a certian channel) for the purpose of obtaining the card for their book (and once filled with all 5 cards they are then inelligable) for a limited time.

Okay thanks for your help, that is about what I was thinking was likely.  I just wanted to ask to see if anybody had maybe thought it through more thoroughly than myself, and maybe come up with something that I could have missed.  Thank you very much for your help.

I was just now looking at your signature.  being this :

And noticed that you listed your playtime.  Which you put as "7,391,012 hours" but if you convert those hours to days it comes out to being : approximately* 307,959 days, and then if you convert this number of days to years (assuming that each year was 365 days, and not counting leap years) then it would come out as : approximately* 844 years.  *each of my approximations just involved rounding the numbers from the calculator to the nearest whole number.

    Re: New monster book

If "PC" means "party quest" (not sure why), "SPC" might be "Special" or "Seasonal." Like the snowman and Rudolph that we'll have to wait until December to get.

There's also talk of some sort of trading system, in which you collect maple leaves (or something similar) to trade in for the cards from a special NPC. No idea how they plan to let everyone collect all of the cards, but I seriously doubt they'd have overlooked that issue.

    Re: New monster book

Special cards (SPC) are mainly boss monsters and event monsters. For instance I have the special cards: Lord Pirate (Pirate PQ boss), and Faust (Giant Lupin boss). Special cards are very hard to get.

The easy way to know what is a special card, is open up your monster book, and press the GOLD tab, those are your special card monsters
