How To: Use The Nexon Forums! (A guide for the newbies)

NOTE: All credit of this thread goes to Kjrokanoshi.

There may be one or two things about these forums that you may or may not known how to do. In this guide, I'll try my best to go through (in detail) how to do these basic forum functions. If you have any questions, I'll be more than happy to answer them or have a few forum regulars answer them.

    Section 1: Hyperlinking

Okay, our first section to this guide is hyperlinking. Many people seem to not know how to do this (or they are just to lazy to do it). Hyperlinking makes your links clickable for everyone. It's a lot less work than having people copy and paste your links. People will be more inclined to go to what you're directing them to if you simply give them a link they can click.

Step one: Type your text. You can simply type something like "click here" or you can just paste the link URL.

    Step two: Highlight the text.

Step three: Click the "Insert/edit link" button on the toolbar. It looks like a chainlink. Once you've clicked this button, a dialogue box should pop up.

Step four: Inside the dialogue box where it says "Link URL" put the link there and press insert.

Your link is now "hyperlinked". You can now post your message. Your previously non-clickable link is now clickable. Congrats!

    Section 2: Posting Pictures

Section 2 of this guide discusses how to post pictures. You have a few choices here (two to be exact). I'll try my best to go into detail on both of them.

    Method 1: Remote Hosting (recommended)

Step one: Find your picture and save it to your computer. You can do this by right-clicking it and selecting "Save Picture As...".

Step two: Take your picture to an image hosting website (ie: Photobucket, Imageshack, tinyurl) and upload it. For Photobucket, you will require an account. Imageshack does not require one while I'm not sure about tinyurl. In my personal experience, Photobucket works the best.

Step three: Once your photo is done uploading, you should see it in your "album". There it should have a few codes. Copy the code with the [IMG] tags around it.

Step four: Paste the [IMG] code into your reply and post it. Your picture should appear in your post.

That's about it. You should have your picture (in all it's glory) on the forums for all to see. I'll go into detail as to why I recommend this method over the next one at the end of the section.

Writer's Note: If you are taking an image from another website, then you do not need to do all of this. What you can do is right-click the image and select "copy image location". Paste that into the reply box here and put [.IMG] at the beginning and [./IMG] at the end of it (without the periods).

Method 2: Attaching to a Reply

Here on the Nexon Forums, you can attach your photo directly to your post.

Step one: Save the picture to your computer (same as step one in method one).

Step two: Go to your reply box. On the very top of it, right above the subject name you should see five tabs. Go to the "Options" tab.

Step three: You should see an "Add/Update" button there. Click it. A dialogue box will pop up.

Step four: Within the dialogue box, you can browse your documents/computer for your photo. Go to where you saved it and select it. Save and go back to your reply box to post your message.

Alternatively, you can simply post the URL link for your picture (similar to the "Writer's Note" in Method one).

You can choose either method to upload your pictures to the forums. It should work fine either way. As for why I prefer method one over method two, it's because with method two, you can only post one image per post. With method one, you can post as many pictures as you need to. It may seem a bit more difficult, but if you really need to get your point accross with something, go with the first method.

    Section 3: Changing Your Font

Now, I have seen many people ask this in the past so I thought it'd be important to include.

Step one: Go to your account settings. You can find this by looking at the top of the page in the large blue bar. If you're logged in, it will say "Signed in as <insert your forum name here>". Click it.

Step two: Once you've clicked it, you should be on the "Signature and Bio" tab (I'll get to that later, although it's self-explanatory). Go straight for the Site Options tab.

Step three: You'll see a list of options. Specifically, you should see four drop down boxes. The third one says "Content Editor" open the dropdown box. It should currently be on "Standard". Change it to "Enhanced" and save.

Step four: When you go back to your reply box, you should see a second toolbar above your regular one. Within that tool bar, you can change your font, font color and font size. You can also cut, paste, paste from word and mess around with some HTML.

Important Note: The Enhanced toolbar WILL NOT work with Chrome. It currently only works for Firefox and IE. I'm not sure if it works with other browsers such as Safari or Opera.

    Section 4: Avatars and Signatures

    Signatures

We passed by this tab during the last section, so there shouldn't be much confusion here.

Step one: Go to your account settings.

Step two: Find an image. We here in Base Discussions have many talented photoshop and GIMP users. Feel free to ask them to make you something for your signature space, I'm sure they'll be able to help you out.

Step three: Once you find something you like, put it in the signature box in the same way you'd post an image using method one. Take the image URL and put [IMG] tags around it.

Step four: Save your changes. It might take a few minutes for your signature to appear.

     Avatars

Step one: Go to your account settings

Step two: Go one tab over to the "Avatar" tab

Step three: Since remote avatars are currently disabled, you'll need to have the image on your computer. Save an image to your computer and locate it using the "browse" button provided. Select your image and save it.

Important Note: Make sure that your Avatar and Signature is appropriate. I'm sure you should be able to discern what's appropriate for these forums so please, use discretion.

Writer's Note: .GIF files will not be animated in Avatars. Avatars can only be still pictures. You may use .GIF files for your Signature.

     Section 5: Other Forum Features

    Favorites

You can make different forumers or posts favorites by selecting the option for it on that person's post. When someone puts you on their favorites list, it comes up in your account options under the "Favorites" tab as "People Watching You". This feature serves no real purpose, it's just something extra to have. Favoriting posts may be helpful if you want to keep an eye on a particular thread.

PM System and Why We Don't Have One

These forums have quite a few unused features. One of them being the PM system. PM stands for "Private/Personal Message" (depends on the forum). It allows you to send messages to other people without anyone else knowing. They can be used to discuss issues without disturbing the public or just for holding simple conversations among yourselves. The system has never been put into effect due to fear of harassment. The system can easily provoke flame wars just as easily as it can prevent them. It is uncertain whether or not the feature will ever be enabled.

    Edit Buttons and Honored Members

The edit button is a common tool used in just about every known forum. It's like the Internet's eraser for ridiculous statements/mistakes. These forums used to have a public edit button however it was abused severely. People would use the button to dodge bans by changing their post whenever they were reported. They would then be free of the ban if the mod saw the edited post. People could also unlock threads locked by moderators. When a thread is locked, you can still edit your message. Once a message in a locked thread is edited, it becomes unlocked.

The severe abuse of the edit button in the forums wound up with the entire feature being removed from public use. Now, it is only Honored Member who have edit buttons.

Honored Members are members of the forums that have been deemed "honorable" by the Nexon staff. They have achieved the moderator's attention by being an active service to the community. This does not mean they are not just regular users, however. The only thing Honored Members have is an edit button. To become an Honored Member...well...it's best to just not try. Most of the people who got the badge weren't expecting or asking for it. They just got it. If you truly deserve to be an Honored Member, you'll get it eventually.

    Polls

These forums do, indeed, have a poll feature. Only moderators can use it however (they rarely ever use it). It is assumed that the poll feature would be spammed by immature and idiotic people, so I guess the entire idea was just avoided (similar to the PM system).

    Deleting and Locking Posts

Only moderators have the ability to delete posts and permanently lock threads. Average members can temp. lock posts. However, I'm not sure on the moderator's stance on this. I will not include it in this guide until I have the moderator's O.K. to do so. I ask that people reading this and know how to do it do not mention it, thank you.

    Ending Comments

I thank all who have read through this thread. I tried my best to put in any and all knowledge of these forums. If anyone else has information they would like me to include, please tell me and I'd be glad to do so. If anyone has any questions about anything mentioned above, please ask them. Either myself or some of the other regulars around here will answer you to the best of our ability.

I am aware that I may have wasted my time typing all of this. I am perfectly fine with that. However, I hope that this can help many newcomers to this growing community. If possible, I ask that either Hime or Tibaroo makes this a sticky.

    Thank you for your time.

The BBCode options for hyperlinks should be there too. However, this is a great little guide. Too bad most people don't take the time to read things anymore.

A website I use to add some flare to my pictures is: http://www.lunapic.com/editor/

You upload the picture you want, then click an effect that you want to add to it, and lastly use another site to make that into a url [ http://photobucket.com/ ]

Like what I did to my signature. vv It's snowing! :D

To report people on forums, there is a link that says "Report Abuse" on the bottom right left of each post.

If you want to report someone in-game, you can either right click on their character & choose the report option or you could log a ticket explaining your situation.
