imagine 1000+ mabinogi players purchasing 10-15k of nx? mabinogi's a mad cash generator, y do they have to be mean and cheap? for example, u buy a stupid 37k bag but u only get to use for a limited amount of time? and real time rich people get to be the best mabinogi players, instead of the hard working kids who dont have money? like, they can rebirth all the time, loaded with ap, and sell bunch of dyes and buy the best equip... buti thnk mabinogi makes more money than any other nexon game bc the real life money lets u have a huge advantage. x.x

What do you expect? Nexon needs to make money off of the game, they're a buisness not a charity. Are the prices a bit high? yes. Considering that to get the most out of a pay to play MMO all you need is 15 a month (aside from the price of the box), while here you have to pay $15 for the Fantasy Life subscription, $8 for a rebirth, and $8-$9.5 for each new character you want to make just to get the full experience.

To be clear.  I don't find the prices for the cash shop to be unreasonable.  On the other hand I do find this attitude that its not that much money to spend to be unreasonable.  Everyones situation is different.  Yes I personallycan afford to splurge on Video games and the occasionaly movie. Other people I know don't have that kind of luxury. However,  Most people I know have a very tight budget.  I'm just lucky because my job really makes it so I have very few bills.

I will, though, put the PRICES people keep quoting more unreasonable than what nexon put for their prices.  People seem to keep demanding, DEMANDING that you must get Full Life+3 week rebirth to play this game.  That goes against the very nature of Cash Shop.  

 

You're not meant to buy everything as oftain as you can.  Games with a cash shop will ALWAYS cost more than P2P if you buy everything because the typical player has no need and should have no wish to buy it all.  Instead, you are to buy just the pieces you want to get. 

Only hyperpower players should even be thinking of buying a rebirth card every month.  Unless you are the type that demands playing 15 hours a day then you can go without a 3 week rebirth, and may get bored of doing constant 1-30 level trips every single month at minimum stats.  

Mainstream requires only one service pack to use.  If you are a guildmaster to be or big on selling, make it Storage.  If you are a hyperleveler, make it Nao.  If you're looking for lots of gold or just none of the above, Advanced.  If you are a crasy-mad powerplayer, THEN you go Full Fantasy.

So if you just want the 'full game' (which would be rebirth and mainstream, though IMO I don't consider mainstream part of the 'full game'), buy one service, rebirth every 2 months.  If you don't want to be disadvantaged, buy just rebirth.

If you are a powergamer to the extreme, yah, you're paying up the wazzo, but that's all you that's doing it, not the game mechanic.

I can agree with dakarian. you don't really need any services at all. i myself am satisfied with rebirthing every 25 weeks and find no need to buy any cards (except maybe a pet card but that's just a choice). and i just want to find efficient way to get good equipment

I agree with KisaiTenshi. You don't need to pay for anything, it's all want that is telling you to buy cards and services. And on another note, the botters make more then Nexon. They employ over a million Chinese people to make inflation of gold in MMOs skyrocket and have about $32,000,000 USD worth of gold in Mabinogi NA alone (No joke I did the math).

How many weeks!?!? You only need to wait 3, rebirth at 17 and wait till age 20, then repeat. I don't see how you're getting 25.

I use premium service for $15 a month. There are a total of four characters on my account and a number of pets, usually when they come out with a limited edition one like the thunderbird or the flying star I will get one just because.

 $15 a month to have the extra service is a decent deal. Mabinogi is far better in my experience than WoW was for the same price, although I quit WoW years ago so it might have changed.

 Now consider that the pets do add up in price as well, but although I have to earn every penny of it myself and can only buy stuff in Mabi when I am done paying my IRL bills, I don't feel cheated at all. To date I have only ever had minor issues mostly resulting from my own computer and internet connection, and have had a lot of fun playing. 

 But to consider the economics of this.

 If I am not mistaken, each physical server unit- of which there are probably around 50 clustered together to make each 'channel' in-game will support 250 - 500 people without being overloaded. That may seem like a lot, but when you consider that even an older web server can handle a few thousand people at a time you realize that Mabinogi has a significant stress on the server side as well. Each server will cost on average $100 per month to support, plus will require licensing fees from DevCat studio that could be anywhere from a few hundred a month to several thousand per month. Plus not everyone using a given server will have premium, but the free users still count against the load total.

 Not only that, but servers don't last forever. They  eventually have to replace the servers, at an average cost of $2000 per core unit for a small one like I make web servers out of. Considering 50 cores per 'channel' and eight channels per server, this can add up really fast. Plus they have to pay taxes, and stuff like power and heat for their building, as well as all the hardware necessary to install a new server such as rack mounts and network switches. It's a lot more complicated on their end keeping all the gears turning than it is on our end playing the game and scraping together cash for premium service.

 There isn't as much money to be made here as you might think, otherwise they would reduce the premium prices in the hopes of having more people purchase them. But for the most part the people that can afford premiums already have them, and the people that play for free either do not want or cannot afford to use it, so even if the price changes they won't get it anyway.
