Mixing Skills and Tactics in Combat (Combat)

This guide explains some basic tactics for combat and teaches you how to learn about your enemy.

    Knowing Your Enemy

This can easily be classified as the most importanat tactic you can use. Learning how the enemy acts and reacts to you is very important. You also need to know the skills an enemy possesses. If you go into to a battle without knowing anything about the enemy, you will constantly be one step behind the enemy. This almost always leads to death, and loss of valuable experience points. This section of the guide will be broken into smaller sections that will help you to learn about your enemy.

You Can Never Have Too Many Friends

Sometimes an enemy will be too hard for you to fight. Watching a friend fight or having a friend help you fight are great ways to help you learn. While your friend fights an enemy, you can observe the skills the enemy possesses and how it acts and reacts to its target. I can admit I have done this before, and it really amazed me that I had made so much progress. This is definitely recommended if you are new to the game.

    Don't Be Afraid to Run

Your friends can't help you right now, and you really want to continue to learning how to fight different enemies. Well there is no better way to learn than to actually fight. This is where being observant is very important. Your knew goal isn't to try to knock out the enemy; it's to observe the enemy. As you fight, try to learn what the enemy is doing and try to prevent them from hitting you. Now this is where you must be the most observant! The biggest mistakes occur when you fight for longer than you have to. Watch your health carefully, and make sure you know when your character has to run. Running doesn't mean you are weak. If you feel you need to run from an enemy, you probably should. Running allows you to end a battle early; so you can heal and get right back to observing the enemy. Remember that some enemies are faster than you. You are better off fighting an enemy that is faster than you trying to run from it. If you are afraid an enemy is faster than you, try to put something between you and the enemy and use a enaged attack on the enemy. This will cause the enemy to be stuck behind the obstacle, but at the same time, it allows you to gauge how fast the enemy moves.

Know What Tactics to Use On Which Enemy

Some tactics can work well against one group of enemies, but it may be useless on other enemies. Some enemies can't be knocked back by certain attacks. For example, some golems possess the skill that is refered to as mana refractor. This prevents the golem from being knocked back by magic attacks every so often, and it tends to reduce the damage the golem receives from magic. This means that you should switch to melee or ranged attacks to fight. Some skills always will knock the enemy back (firebolt and smash are good examples); so they can still be used in battle effectively. The only difference will be how you will have to use the skill in battle; so that it still works to your advantage.

    Pay Attention to Your character

You have to remember that paying attention to your character is important. Here are some tips.

-Watch your character's hunger. Try to keep it above 80%; so you don't have to worry about lacking max stamina in a time of need.

-Pay attention to the durability of your items. Items with zero durability become useless; so make sure to get them repaired when needed. Also, make sure to bless your items with blessed water; so your items durability will drop slower. Remember that blessed items can't be dropped when you run out of health.

-Always watch your health, mana, and stamina. If any of them are low, it can easily cause problems during a batlle.

    Using The Terrain Around You

This can be the difference between life and death. This technique basically is learning the terrain around you and using it to your advantage. An example of this is, making sure the enemy, you are about to hit, won't be knocked back into the wall. If you hit an enemy into a wall, you lose the advantage you have when the enemy is flying through the air or sliding across the ground. This is a problem; because the time the enemy spends being sent through the air can be used to activate skills. Another example is using your terrain to block enemies. You can use your terrain to stop an enemy from being able to charge at you, by making sure an object is between you and the enemy. While the enemy can't get to you, there are many options you are given. These may be having time to use potions, charging magic, or even just gaining distance between you and the enemy.

    The Weakness

Using terrain can be a mixed blessing, especially in dungeons. What might be a good position to fight one enemy in, might not be able to be said when fighting another enemy. If you aggro an enemy after you just finished fighting another enemy, the terrain may being an advantage to the enemy. Terrain has to be used wisely, or it can harm you instead of helping you.

    Defend + Counter

A simple technique that requires you to alternate between defending and countering. This technique allows you to deal damage to the enemy, and at the same time, minimize the damage you receive. This technique is easy to learn making it a great technique for beginners.

    The Weakness

Although this is a great technique to use as a beginner, it's not recommended to become dependant on this. Once you begin to enter dungeons (above the beginner level) you will notice that many enemies will hit pretty hard regardless of the fact that you are defending. This technique is great to use when you are playing for the first time, but it becomes less effective the stronger you become.

    Counter + Windmill

This techinique requires you to alternate between using counter and windmill. This technique is similar to defend + counter. You start by either attacking the enemy or using counter on enemy that you have aggroed (aggro is often used as a term that describes hostile enemies attacking you; because they see you as a threat. Aggro can occur if you attack an enemy or if you are within the enemy's "aggro range".). After you have counterattacked the enemy, you immediately charge a windmill. Once the enemy is within the range of your windmill, you activate it and knock the enemy back while dealing decent damage to the enemy. After you use the windmill, you immediately switch back to counter, which allows you to once again prevent the enemy from damaging you.

    The Weakness

A strong technique, but not without it's own flaws. This technique requires the use of windmill, which also costs you 10% of your health per use. This leads to the problem that you may be lacking health in the middle of the battle. Another problem is you have to watch your stamina. This technique doesn't allow you to perform any combo hits on your enemy. This can leave harder battles to be drawn out for a while (unless your character has strong levels in these skills). If the battle becomes too long, you may run low on stamina, and from personal experience, I know that using potions during a battle can be hard depending on the enemy. Another problem is aggroing multiple enemies. If this ever happens, you will be in a lot of trouble. Positioning yourself, before the battle, is important. Positioning yourself well, as a preparation for battles, allows you to avoid multiple aggroing and take advantage of the terrain around you.

    Icebolt Counter

This is a relatively advanced technique that can be used to deal damage to an enemy, and at the same time, you take no damage at all, if done successfully. There are a few patterns that can be used to perform this, but I'm gonna explain the one that can be used in most situations. Before entering a battle charge all five icebolts. Fire the first three icebolts (knocking back the enemy), and then charge one more. Now you fire another three icebolts (knocking the enemy back again). Now you counter, immediatley after the counter icon above your head disappears, you charge one icebolt and fire it at the enemy immediately. Next, you must counter as soon as the icebolt icon above your head disappears. Then once again you charge one icebolt and fire it. The process continues like this until the enemy is dead.

    The Weakness

A great technique to use against slower enemies, but hard to perform on faster enemies. A good example of a slow enemy is a skeleton. Icebolt counter is very easy to perform on skeletons; because they lack the speed to charge at you like crazy. This gives you room for a little error, but it's the exact opposite with fast enemies. Fast enemies require for near flawless use of this technique. Another problem is this requires the use of mana. Running out of mana prevents you from effectively using the skill. This makes carrying around mana potions almost necessary. Another problem is this technique can leave you in long drawn out battles. Luckily, this can be fixed by increasing the level of the skills you need. I know this from personal experience; because when I increased my icebolt level, the damage I did, when using icebolt during battle, had a decent increase.

Gaining Full Control of Your Character

If you want more control over your character, you simply have to do two things. The first is to turn off automatic combat, which is relatively easy to figure out how to do. You just click the automatic battle button on the right side of your interface until it says manual on your screen. The next step is to go into options. Now you go to the tab that says "Game". Now go look at where it says "reserve". Simply turn reserved to "not use". This will make it so that the game won't reserve any actions for you before they are performed. An example would be, if you have reserved on and click the enemy multiple times to attack it, you will most likely use your full combo on the enemy. With reserve off, no matter how many times you click the enemy, you will only initiate one attack when you reach it. Then you simply click the enemy again, when your attack connects with the enemy, and you will use the next attack. This gives you more control over your character, which makes it easier to perform whatever tactic you feel necessary.

    Finishing Statements

If you use all of these tips, you should be able to learn about your enemies, and use the terrain around you to your advantage. Also, you should know some basic strategies to use against enemies, and the weaknesses these strategies have. You also should have max control over your character during combat. This wraps up my guide. Thank you for reading it, and have a great fantasy life.

    Re: Guidance Goodness! Event Guidelines

THE BEGINNERS GUIDE TO BASIC COMBAT

This guide is for beginners wanting to learn a good basic combat strategy. This is the strategy I use myself and seems to work very well ( against normal mobs, and by normal I mean not major bosses Indifferent). To get the full effect you will want these skills; "Smash", "Defense", and "Counter". Now, it can be done with just "Defense", but the more skills you have, of course,  the better you will be able to optimize. Big Smile So, assuming you have all these skills ill tell you how I set them up on my skill bar ( but in reality its whats most comfortable to you ). You want to set your skills up in a manner that you wont get your fingers lost in the buttons. you want to be able to push the right ones without looking. Therefore my hand is always rested on F1, F2, and F4. I use a laptop so the keys are very small meaning its easier to bridge one key to the next. so for you full keyboard users you may be more comfortable with F1, F2, and F3. Thats up to you. Anyways, F1 is set to "Smash", F2 is set to "Defense", and F4 is set to "Counter". Its also good that your keeping your hand near ESC because lets face it, sometimes you need a quick ESCape. Stick out tongue Now I will break down the rotation in which you use these in.

                                                                     THE BASIC CYCLE

Step One: First attack can be ether a "Smash", or a regular combo attack. I recommend a "Smash" if your weapon is not very good, unless you know how to 2+1 or 3+1 hit which I will go over later.

Step Two: Immediately after "Smashing" or finishing your combo attack you will hit the "Counter" button. For those of you who do not have "Counter" yet, you may use "Defense".

Step Three: Assuming you used "Counter", your next move would be, immediately after smacking that mean old mob back, hit "Defense". For those who do not have counter and just used Defense, you will now go back to normal combo attack, then "Defense". Normal, "Defense". Normal, "Defense".

Step Four: Right on back to normal combo attack.

Then you just repeat until Mr mob is deader than a doornail Big Smile.

Now. There are exceptions to these rules, and I'll go through them right now. You wont always be able to tell what attack your mob is using because most the time ( at-least for me Stick out tongue ) its an [X] mark over his head. However, you can still figure out what hes doing by his motions, so you should watch carefully.

                                                                         EXCEPTIONS

Exception One: If your in "Defense" mode and you see ether the "Smash" icon over your mobs head, OR if an [X] appears above his head and he starts running full speed at you, immediately ether push ESC, ( this is why its good to have it nearby ) or click on the icon above your own head and start back at step one with a normal attack. Normal attacks are faster than "Smash" attacks so you'll break through his smash and knock him back.

Exception Two: say your in "Counter" mode and ether the "Defense" appears over your mobs head or [X] appears above his head and he starts walking toward, or circling you slowly. Granted your in "Counter" mode and no melee attack can break it. But if you want to save yourself some stamina, and or also deal some more HARDCORE PWNAGE!!! ....Ahem....., sorry I got a little carried away there, you should cancel your "Counter" as quickly as possible, switch to "Smash", chase him down, and send him sprawling. Then you would start over again at step 2. And that does it for the exceptions. Here are a few more good hunting tips.

                                                                       TIPS AND TRICKS

Tip One: If your in an area where lots of mobs are agro around, its a good idea as soon as your finished with one mob to just throw up a "Defense" just in case. You never know when one you never saw will come from behind and give yah a good smack. Stick out tongue

Tip Two: If an enemy is not moving at all and has an [X] mark above his head, NEVER attack it. Unless you use magic or a bow. Because you don't know if hes using "Counter"

Tip Three: That little extra hit. Turning a 2 hit weapon into a 3 hit, and a 3 into a 4, can be invaluable to learn. Because the quicker you end the battle, the less chance the enemy has to kill you Indifferent

How It Works: Lets start off with a one handed weapon. First of all you want to make sure your attacks are set to "Manual" and you can do that by pressing the "A" button. Click on the enemy one time. ONE TIME!! Your character should run over and swing once. After he swings hell go into his animation where he spins his sword around and back to the ready position. If you time it right, hit the mob once let the sword spin around to ready position, then quickly spam click on the enemy, you should have now added an extra hit. Ergo 2+1 or 3+1.

Now the animation for a two handed weapon is different. Take your first swing, and as your doing so note your right foot stepping forward. As soon as your right foot comes back to original position, spam click the enemy and your extra hit is done.

Well, thats all for basic combat. Now get out there and show 'em what your made of!! Big Smile

Re: Guidance Goodness! Event Guidelines (Combat System)

    Magic-Warrior guide(A.K.A Spell Knight/Rune knight) lvl 1-20

~Introduction~ A good first impression makes all the difference.

Hello fellow Mabi Players! This is my guide to train your character into a devastating DPS machine that sines in party play and can be absolutely brutal to any monster foolish enough to try and take you 1v1. this guide contains information from level one till level 20. after that you should be able to carry on without my help. I guess thats all the intro it takes so have fun

    ~Royal~

~Starting out~Well with every great story you need to start at the beginning

1.First things first finish your starter quest with Nao's letter

    2. when you are given the lost resident quest i recommend holding off a level or two before talking to Trefor and killing some brown foxes

3.gain your smash skill (I never needed to go past F rank with this because your firebolt/lightning bolt will be adequate for knockback)

    4. Save the girl of course!!!

    5. i took money but its a personal preference

    6.help malcom get his ring

    7. save some sheep and get Duncans praise and your title(i prefer Nora's for the free firewood)

    8. work your way up through the quests using minimal ap, do not advance smash and windmill is unnecessary, till you hit level 16-17

    9. DO NOT do the giant spider quest yet it will be used later

~Your first spell~ This is it!! no more phew phew, here comes the pew pew....right?

    1. you should at this point have come across the black wolf quest right? well kill the wolfies and get your first ice spellbook!

2.after learning the spell go to the Tir Chonail school and talk to lassar and inquire about classes(being that you already know ice it is discounted to 1000g instead of 4000g)

    3. sit through the three days of class and gain your int bonus

4.go and rank ice up a few but save AT LEAST 8 Ap(you need them for fire and lighning)

~Moving on to becoming an elementalist~ Even MORE pew pew!!! Righteous!

    1. heres where your gonna need at least eleven thousand gold. Too much you say? not to worry gray fox farming for fomor scrolls is now easy as cake and gives 1050 every 10 scrolls.

    2. once you have the first 4000 go to school and spend another  three days till you get your firebolt skill.

    3. go back to school and take the lightning class

    4. upon completing day 3 of the lightning class you will be given a quest to go kill a giant spider(you can complete it alongside the original giant spider quest glad you didnt just burn through it right away (=... )

5 once you have done the quest(common battle sequence later nearer to bottom...because not everyone gets magic down right away) you can now equip your noob elementalist title!!!

6.go to dunbarton and get your meditation skill(you will definitely want this one because running outta mana during the day really sucks!!!)

~Skill guide~ the skills your really gonna need...like numchuck skills and bow staff skills or computer hacking skills..............

Combat skills- you will want at minimum

1.smash rank F-good knockback till you get fire

    2. counter attack-great for between magic spells to buy you time

3.defense-for when there isnt time to cast(you can walk backwards while casting

    Magic Skills- of course

    1. icebolt-five bolts of raining death+allows for a stun long enough to stop an incoming attack and respond cast after a counter hit before they attack you

2.firebolt-great knockback to start a fight or if you just cast counter and cant wait for the cooldown

    3. lightningbolt-short knockback and long stun+quick cast time is stupendous to stop hard hitters

    4. heal-not really necessary-use if you dont know first aid or have pots

5.meditation-use it during the day to recover without a risen eweca

    ~sub section ~

    ~lightning damage spread~

1 charge= stun and hit one enemy

2 charge= will hit and knock back a single enemy OR hit up to 2 enemies

3 charges= will hit and knock back a single enemy and stun another enemy OR stun up to 3 enemies

4 charges= will hit and knock back 2 enemies OR stun up to 4 enemies

5 charges= will hit and knock back 2 enemies and stun another enemy OR stun up to 5 enemies

    ~main section two~

~Quick combat guide~ tired of being stunned and killed in seconds? then the quick combat guide is for you

*Note*most fights will be started with a firebolt attack or lightning shock because of the throwback it is your preference which one i prefer firebollt because the damage is more direct. please refer to my skill guide. for the damage sorting.

wolves. they are fast and will watch you if you go into defense. so my recommended attack pattern is fireboltx5 followed up by a counter,if they go into defense and try to wait out your stamina the go straight into another firex1as soon as it comes outta def. if it tries to charge instead let the counter activate and as soon as the counter bubble disappears click into ice and let it charge x1 let the wolf get close blast it with the one bolt and combo regular combo it. if it still isnt dead yet then go into def and back up as wolves rarely smash at that distance take the def hit and combo again till dead on the off chance that the wolf does go into smash cancel def with the backspace button and reg combo it when it charges you.

Foxes & spiders. most foxes can be killed with one attack or 2x firebolt spiders too unless they happen to def quickly(if this happens they take damage but dont stun very long in which case your going to want to go def and back up to let it cast fully

Bears. heres the one all ten year olds want well heres how you can get it by 14-15 level if you really want this one buy the fire and ice books and learn them. before the classes now go out to dugald isle just south of the logging camp find a nice brown bear and hit it with firex5 followed by counter, then lightning if you had that book too(if not fire and knock it back) because lightning has a longer stun time and shorter cast during its stun go into counter if the bear uses def go into def as well you will lose a good chunk of health but its nothing a potion cant take care of.take the hit and combo it then on combo finish cast lightning and hit it then go counter. follow up with that till dead and the at ten title is yours. if you want with bare hands simply switch weapons during the last spell you cast before the finishing combo. if you want with a single blow title then take its life down to as low as possible and let it kill you  resurrect and cast a 1x fire at it and bada bing 1 shot title.

~Congratulations you can now go about casting and destroying things with out ever getting touched by a monster!! make me proud!!!~

~FAQYou know you were thinking it!!!

    Q. i ran outta ap what ever shall i do it takes so long to level!!!

    A. well you have a few of options.

    1. you can keep training untill you level over and over.

    2. you can do part time jobs till saturday and generally just have fun then get a few Ap from the aging.

    3. if you royally messed up with your Ap then well....sad as it is to say start over and dont learn some skills you dont need ex. dont learn windmill AND counter, you only need one or the other(i recommend counter because it doesnt hurt you like windmill) or do you REALLY need to learn to weave AND cook?

    Q. i keep getting killed by fast monsters what do i do?WHAT DO I DO?

    A. learn your timing and refer to my quick combat guide above the FAQ

    Q. i Really wanted that bear slayer at 10/with bare hands title and died a bunch because i didnt follow a battle strategy now im at -89% xp...can you help me?

    A. short answer.....no. i can give you some advice though  if you notice your xp count going below -10% i would stop what i was doing and go back to town on the next death because why in the world would you want to need twice the xp to get one level higher. also you may need to restart because it is really hard to recover from that.

Re: Useful Battle Techniques For Soloing Monsters and Dungeons

     Rising your Character

Advise in creating a new Human character using Nu-Gundam post (868565)

The first 20 level of Mabinogi is very easy, and it is wise to chose a suitable age to get the best level growth out of this easy 20 lvls:

    For Human Warrior:

It is wise to start at age 10 to get the maximium HP, since Str increase uniformly at any age, so it is the best to lvl the first 20 lvl at age 10 and get the most HP for a warrior.

    For Human Archer:

You should always create a character at age 10, since u get more AP for that. But do not lvl your human archer right away. Leave it for a week and let it be age 11. Then quickly lvl as much as possible at age 11. This way u can get as much HP, Dex and Will for your starting character.

     For Human Mage:

You should always create a character at age 10, since u get more AP for that. Do not lvl your human mage right away, but try to learn all the magic skills without leveling. Leave the character till age 17. Then quickly lvl as much as possible at age 17. Although, you don't get the most INT at age 17 (the most INT you get is at age 21), but u also get 0.75 of MP at every level for age 17. This way u can get as much MP, and a high number of INT for your starting character. Mage should level as much as possible at age 17 till 22, this is thier prime age to have a high INT mage.

Jay's guide to part time jobs part 1 introduction

The part time job or arbeit are given by the NPCs and unlike quests can be repeated over and over again. You can trigger them by clicking on the 4th option in Travel Diary when talking to a NPC at daytime. Once you have accepted an arbeit, the arbeit info will be displayed in quest. It will show a picture of the NPC who gave you the albeit in the quest box.  Once Accpeted, you will be given 9 hours (maginobi time) to complete the quest. If the task is not completed and reported back to NPC on time, it will expire and the arbeit information with the NPC picture will be automatically removed from the quest box and you will receive no reward.
Therefore it is important for you to check amount of time left to complete an arbeit, which is shown on the top-right corner of screen once you have accepted an albeit. When an albeit is 100% completed, you will be given 1 more minute (real-time)to report back to the NPC  to collect the reward. For collection quests, you can still receive 50% of the reward and exp if you bring more than half the quantity of the items required for the quest back to the NPC before the arbeit expires. But for delivery quests, in order to receive the rewards you must complete all the requirements. When you fail a delivery quest, the delivery item becomes useless and stays in your inventory.
Arbeits are only available in the day and Most NPCs give random arbeits. Different NPCs offers arbeits at a different but fix time in the day.
Each NPC can only offer a limited number of arbeits to you in a game day. Therefore, if there are too many players waiting for an arbeit, you might not be able to get one. Albeit can be completed at Dunburton and Tir Chonaill.

I'll write job guide to Tir Chonaill and Dunburton in part 2.

    Re: Guidance Goodness! Event Guidelines

Potionmaking, a bit of Herbalism, and Enchanting :3 Use Control+F and type in the # and Letter, to head directly to the section. 1. How to Make Potions a. Acquiring the Skill b. Materials c. Rank F Potion-Making Skills d. A bit of Herbalism 2. How to Enchant a. Acquiring the Skill b. Materials c. Enchant Scrolls d. Understanding the Enchant Scrolls e. Enchantments Jestie's guide to Potionmaking, a bit of Herbalism, and Enchanting. - Necessary knowledge will be underlined or italicized, possibly bolded. 1a. How to make Potions: Acquiring the Skill Acquiring the skill is fairly easy. All you have to do is go to the Healer's House - in any city except Bangor, which requires you to go to the NPC Comgan - and purchase a Potion Concocting Kit; they cost 1000 Gold at all locations. Otherwise, you can quest for the Potion Concocting Kit. It comes to you when you kill, I think Skeleton Wolves or Skeletons...somewhere amongst that line. Next, Equip the Potion Concocting Kit in your right hand. You will instantly gain knowledge of the skill, but will not have full experience points. In order for you to advance from Novice Rank to Rank F Potionmaking, you will need to: 1. Attempt to concoct a potion. 2. Successfully concoct a potion. Successfully doing both will give you perfect training to Rank F. But note, in order for you to concoct potions, you will need Materials. 1b. How to Make Potions: Materials Herbs are the basis of creating potions. Obtaining them will be fairly easy, even easier with the life skill Herbalism which I will cover later. To find these herbs, one will need to go through dungeons to find them, dungeons such as: Alby Basic, Ciar Beginner/Normal/Basic, Math Normal, Rabbie Normal/Basic, Fiodh Normal. All of these dungeons have herb patches. Herb Patches you say? They look like this: The basics of the herbs - There are four major herbs you pick to create potions you use to recover HP, MP or SP. Base Herbs are harvested from Green Herb patches. Bloody Herbs are harvested from Red Herb patches. Sunlight Herbs are harvested from Yellow Herb patches. Mana Herbs are harvested from Blue Herb patches. Picking herbs require both hands to be empty and for you to click on the patch of herbs. Note - Without the skill Herbalism, picking herbs will fail constantly, but you will still get the herbs. Any other types of herbs beyond the Major Herbs require the skill Herbalism. For instance, Golden Herbs require the skill to be harvested. 1c. How to Make Potions: Rank F Potionmaking Skills The Success Rates might have changed. This came from Week 1 of Open-Beta Mabinogi. Novice Rank Potion Success Rates are ~11%, the rule above applies to this. Novice -> Rank F = 1AP Rank F -> Rank E = 1AP Potion Production List: Wound Remedy Potion 30 - 33% Success Requires: Gold Herb, Bloody Herb, Mana Herb, Base Herb, Base Potion, x1 each. Base Potions can be purchased at the Healer's House. Wound Remedy Potion 10 - 39% Success Requires: Gold Herb, Bloody Herb, Mana Herb, Base Herb, x1 each. HP & MP Potion 50 - 33% Success Requires: Bloody Herb, Mana Herb, Base Herb, Base Potion, x1 each. HP & MP Potion 30 - 39% Success Requires: Bloody Herb, Mana Herb, Base Herb, x1 each. From here on, success rate remains 53% HP Potion 100 Requires: Bloody Herb, Base Herb, Base Potion, x1 each. HP Potion 50 Requires: Bloody Herb, Base Herb, x1 each. MP Potion 100 Requires: Mana Herb, Base Herb, Base Potion, x1 each. MP Potion 50 Requires: Mana Herb, Base Herb, x1 each. Stamina Potion 100 Requires: Sunlight Herb, Base Herb, Base Potion, x1 each. Stamina Potion 50 Requires: Sunlight Herb, Base Herb, x1 each. 1d. How to Make Potions: A bit of Herbalism To acquire this skill, you have to go to Dunbarton - 2 Maps South of Tir Chonaill, 1 Map South of Dugald Aisle, 1 Map North of Gairech Hills, 2 Maps North of Bangor - and go to the Healer's House. There, talk to NPC Manus, complete his Part Time Job 10 times and he will say an owl will give you the quest for the skill once you leave the house. Also, completing his Part Time Job more than once gives you Rank F -> Rank E experience for the life skill, Rest. Once the owl flies by and gives you the quest, the quest will require you to give Manus a Base Herb. In doing so: Quest Rewards: 500 EXP, Herbalism Skill You receive full EXP for Novice Herbalism Skill, and in order to advance, it eats up 5AP. But if you do advance to Rank F Herbalism, you can "Recognize Base Herb patches outside the dungeon." Meaning, you can find Green Herb patches outside the dungeon - in maps of Tir Chonaill, Dugald Aisle, Dunbarton, Gairech Hills... - The higher your skill gets, the more you can find herbs outside the dungeon, I think. 2a. How to Enchant: Acquiring the Skill Another simple way of obtaining a skill - equipping items. This time, you have to have either Magic Powder or Elite Powder. Both of these, are obtainable through completing a dungeon or buying them at Magic School shops from Lassar in Tir Chonaill or Stewart in Dunbarton. 500 Gold for Magic Powder, 1000 Gold for Elite Powder. I don't know the difference between the two...but... Equip either Magic Powder or Elite Powder in the right hand, and you will automatically gain full experience for the skill. Advancing the skill from Novice to Rank F require 1AP. 2b. How to Enchant: Materials To Enchant...you will require 3 things. You will need Magic Powder equipped in your right hand, an Enchantment Scroll in the left, and the equip you plan on enchanting. The equip can be equipped or unequipped. As mentioned earlier, magic powder can be obtained through finishing a dungeon or purchased at the Magic Schools. Enchantment Scrolls can be obtained through finishing a dungeon, or burning an enchanted piece of equipment. This I will explain shortly... The equipment you wear is a no-brainer...except, some Enchantment Scrolls will require specific pieces of equipment. Some are weapon-only enchantments, whereas others are for all. About burning enchanted equipment, this is another way to obtain more rare enchantments. Burning Enchanted equipment require three things as well: Holy Water [obtainable through Church Part time jobs], Mana Herbs [obtainable through blue herb patches in dungeons], and the Enchanted equipment. Higher leveled dungeons give enchanted equips as rewards at the end, so you can burn those and try to extract the enchant. You will also need a Campfire to burn these...of course... Next, select the equipment you wish to burn, drag it over the campfire until the pointer says "Burn" with a fire icon as a pointer. In doing so, options will appear: Burn, Entrust the Burn, Enchanter's Burn. Out of these three, burning it will do nothing but give you EXP. Don't choose that. Entrusting the burn, means you want to have a member of your party burn the equip for you. Entrusting the burn brings up a window, if you're in a party. The window will show what items the person you're entrusting the enchant to, what items you and the burner will provide, in the case that I entrusted a burning, Sunlight Herbs and Holy Water. On the window, it will also show you the success rate. Enchanter's Burn, means you will burn it yourself, if you have the Mana Herb and Holy Water. If you fail the Enchanter's Burn or Entrusting the Burn, your equip will disappear as well as the enchantment, and you will receive EXP. 2c. How to Enchant: Enchant Scrolls There is a specific type of Enchant Scroll I wish to talk about, and these are the "Unknown Enchant Scrolls." You obtain these through Tir Chonaill's Duncan. Talking to NPC Duncan, will bring up a list of options, one which will say "Help Villager." If you help the villager, an owl will fly by and give you a random quest. Completing this quest gives you an "Unknown Enchant Scroll" These Enchant Scrolls have no specific enchantment or do not use Magic Powder/Elite Powder. They have a 50% Success Rate. Failing the Enchant means the scroll will disappear from your inventory. Successful enchantments give you random enchantments. 2d. How to Enchant: Understanding the Enchant Scroll On the Enchant Scroll, it will list: Enchantment Rank: The rank specifies the difficulty of the enchantment. They are ranked Rank F~Rank 1. F being the easiest, 1 being the hardest. These Ranks are affected by the Rank of your Enchant skill. Unknown Enchant Scrolls have random enchantment ranks. Enchantment Suffixes and Prefixes: These Suffixes or Prefixes are what you can use to stack enchantments on to your equipment. Every equipment is limited to one Prefix and one Suffix. It will say so on your Enchant Scroll to what it is. Unknown Enchant Scrolls are variably suffixes or prefixes. Enchant Scroll Durability: Every Enchant Scroll, except for Unknown Enchant Scrolls have durability. Depending on your Enchant skill Rank, if you fail your Enchant, the scroll's durability will go down. At Rank F, the enchant scroll's durability goes down by 70%. You will have a second chance at enchanting, before the scroll is destroyed. If the durability reaches 0%, the scroll will be unusable and it will be highlighted red in your inventory. Enchant Scroll Effects: They will be listed as Red or Blue, Red being a negative effect, and Blue being a positive effect. When equipment become enchantment, there are specific requirements to activate the Enchantment's effects. Gray means the enchantment's requirements are not met yet. 2e. How to Enchant: Enchantments Here are some enchantments, their effects and requirements. Some also have a range to how much they can add. For instance; 2~3 means on a range of 2 to 3, the outcome is random. Enchantment Rank F, Suffix, Fine - Level 4+ = Critical +1% // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank E, Prefix, Sharp - Level 12+ = Critical +2% // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank D, Prefix, Swan Summoner's - Level 12+ = Minimum Injury Rate +1% // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank D, Suffix, Water - Max MP+2~3 // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank D, Suffix, Patience - Max Stamina+3~4 // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank D, Suffix, Understanding - Level 2+, INT+1~2 // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank C, Prefix, Good - Level 3+ = Damage Balance +1%~3% // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank C, Suffix, Health - Max HP+2~3 // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank B, Prefix, Fox - Level 14+ Minimum Damage +1~2; Max Damage +1~4 // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank B, Suffix, Considerate - Level 17+ = INT+2~3 // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank B, Suffix, Sustainer - Max Stamina +5~8 // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank B, Suffix, Fountain - Level 8+ = Max Mana+4~7 // Enchantable on any equipment Enchantment Rank A, Suffix, Bloody - Level 7+ = Max HP+4~7 // Enchantable on Headwear, Armor or Accessories only Enchantment Rank A, Suffix, Healer - Healing Rank B+ = Will+5, HP+15; Enchant Rank C+ = Stamina-20 // Enchantable on any equipment Fox enchants are very popular. So are Giant and Raven, but these two aren't listed here. Look for more details in-game other sites. Enchantment list, credited to www.mabinogiworld.com/wiki. One thing about enchantments, is elementals. Monsters drop these items called elementals, and they give the ability to imbue your equipment with elements. Fire, Ice and Lightning Elements can be enchanted on to your equipment. They have a 100% Success Rate, and don't harm your equipment in any way. However, there is one thing - Enchanting an Elemental on to your equipment change your element type. Everyone starts off Neutral element, using an elemental changes your element. It can be good and also bad at the same time. For instance, imbuing yourself with a Ice Elemental, changes your entire attribute to Ice. Facing a Red Skeleton with one of your equipment enchanted with an Ice Elemental, can be good and bad. Good being, you do twice as much damage to Red Skeletons, since Ice and Fire are opposing elements. Bad being, they do twice as much to you too. Lightning is the middle between the two, and I'm unsure about the balance between this. Fighting an element with the same element does normal damage, sometimes it does less. But I'm not too sure about elementals... Written by Jestie, credits to FaustXIII on MabinogiPlayer.com/forums for Herbalism, credits to MabinogiWorld.com/wiki for Enchantment List.
