This thread is by no means a direct insult to anyone who
participated in the creation of the homepage. I am only taking the role
of a critic, and displaying my honest opinions (and the errors in the
site).
First off, congratulations for the opening of the Mabinogi
homepage. As the Koreans would say it, Suugo (수고). I only wish that
devCAT is introduced soon so that they recieve the proper credit they
deserve for making the game.
Starting Criticism:
The
overall webpage is very nice. Actually quite decent. It looks just like
all the other Mabinogi sites, as it should. The starry blue background
gets a thumbs up as well. Though the site is lacking a lot of contents,
I'm sure it will be added on as the game progresses. Not much negative
comments can be said here, but something about the site overall is just
bland and distasteful for the eyes.
One thing that grabbed my
attention: Translations. Some of the contents on the guides pages is
basically a direct translations of the guides made years ago in the
Korean webpage. A New release means NEW content. Please, try to write
something new instead. The Korean guides were outdated, originating all
the way from their very own Beta stages.
It was a nice attempt to
change an NPC of two to have an African American dissent, though there
was a bit too much stereotyping involved with Manus (he has no shoes
either). It helps avoid the "racist" card, and gives the "North
American" feeling to it. But keep it consistent. Simple mistakes can really confuse the general audience. What am I talking about?

Look up Manus. I think its quite self explanatory. Also to comment, Tracy is missing an NPC portrait.
Trefor's NPC descriptions have been replaced with Piaras's descriptions. Copy Pasting? Some one is gonna get a demotion.
Speaking
of consistency, I'd like to make a slight note about translation/guide
correlations. It was well reknowned in English communities that the
life of the weapon would be called "Durability" years ago, and
guides/wikis were made. However, with the release of CB and PreOB we
are proven horribly wrong with the word "Proficiency". After we found
and changed all the words "Durability" to "Proficiency", I read a
article on the Mabinogi Tips page saying the word "Durability". Make up
your mind. Now I have to go back and change all my guides AGAIN.
Blessing
Water is now Holy Water? Herbalism is now Herb Skill? Uncomfortably
acceptable. However, Laghodessa is NOT the official spelling for the
mythical creature Rhaghodessa is named after. I get the idea that
translators have no experience with the game, or celtic/fantasy
backgrounds the game takes after. I also read on the Mabinogi Tips page
the words "Dye Ampoule". Ampoule? What is this, Canada?! (no offense meant). I don't think it'll be spelled like that in the game, will it?
Compliments to the Promotion Video. About time NA server got their OWN movie.
The
site should be standalone. Sure, Nexon runs it, and there can be a
Nexon bar/link, but Mabinogi is Mabinogi. Even if its to the same
department, complaints/help-requests should be sent on a form found in
the Mabinogi Webpage, instead of sending the user to the Nexon page,
which somehow derives its source from maplestory.nexon.net.
The
Composer system, like the one in the Korean pages, was a good idea to
make sure players can write songs without having to access the game
directly. But wheres the button that copies all the codes? Why is the
Flute instrument allowed to be tested on if Flutes will not be
introduced until the far-later release of Emain Macha?
Quote form the FAQ
So do I need Nexon Cash to play?
Nope.
You never have to spend a penny to play and enjoy the game. Paying
users are not given an advantage in game play. If you want to be great
at Mabinogi, you must keep playing. =)
Thats
funny. Very VERY funny. You guys made me laugh and now it had made my
day. Just to prove this statement I will be your Guinea Pig, and
ATTEMPT to enjoy a full round of Peaca dungeon without any rebirths,
transformation, and Nao revives.
What I'm trying to get at: The
site is okay, though its not the best. What it needs the most right
now, is consistency with the actual game and other staff members. There
are many other small nitpicky things I can point out that makes the
page look so unprofessional. Honestly, I am somewhat disappointed by
the overall quality of the page. Many users of different fanforums are
not very satisfied either.
I'll wait and see. Hopefully it'll become better soon. Thank you, have a great day.
