    General Description

Mabinogi is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) that highlights the fact that it is free and gives the player complete freedom on what he or she wishes to do. How the game does it is simple - it offers a plethora of skills with no limits on which you wish to develop. These are divided into three categories - Melee, Magic and Life. Some skills include Windmill and Defend (Combat), Icebolt and Enchant (Magic) and Weaving and Blacksmith (Life).

Mabinogi's Fantasy Life consists of dungeons, wilderness and towns. Dungeons are mazes filled with hostile monsters (collectively called 'Fomor') that hold rewards for players throughout the dungeon, including a Treasure Room at the end, guarded by one or more Boss Fomor. Through dungeons, players get stronger and fatten their wallets.
The Current Dungeons in Erinn are: Alby, Ciar, Math, Rabbie, Barri, Fiodh, Rundal, Coill, Peaca
The Current Dungeons in the Other World are: Albey

The wilderness is every area outside of towns and dungeons. This is where Fomors spawn and roam. Occasionally, there will be Field Boss' that spawn. These Fomor are much stronger than regular Field Fomor and are usually followed by a small band of their minions. When they appear, there will be an announcement about it in the game, announcing both which Field Boss it is and where it is. If someone were to defeat one Field Boss, there name will also be announced in a similar fashion, to herald the player's accomplishment in slaying the Field Boss.

Fields include, but are not limited to; Dugald Aisle, Sidhe Sneachta, Osna Snail, Sen Mag Plateou

Towns are filled with NPCs (Non-Playable Characters) whom aid the player throughout the Fantasy Life. They do this buy selling items (Potions, Quest Scrolls, Equipment), offering Part Time Jobs, offering skills to learn and/or giving player's quests to fulfill. Towns also have the benefit of being a safe zone - Fomors never spawn in here.
The Current Towns in Erinn are; Tir Chonaill, Dunbarton, Bangor, Emain Macha

Again, the whole point of the game is that you can do and be anything. So if you wanted to be a Weaving Archer Magician Blacksmith Who Saved The Goddess, go ahead. No one is stopping you but perhaps yourself.

Tip - players can set up their own shops in town. First, you will need the Extra Storage Premium service and an Item Bag. Then, you will need to go to the Bank and purchase a deed for setting up your shop in the specified area. When you are ready, you can set up shop. Be warned - the deed can only be used so long as you haven't earned gold through the shop you're setting up.
Tip - not all dungeons are the same. Each dungeon gives out different rewards and consist of different monsters. Learn about the dungeon before you leap into one.
Tip - holding 'Ctrl' and then pressing 'N' will result in names being hidden.

    Combat

The Combat guide linked at the top of this thread (by Kitaek27) explains Combat in much greater depth. I highly suggest you look at it sometime during your Mabinogi career, earlier if you're new.

The Combat system in Mabinogi is unlike any other Combat System I've ever seen (except it has an uncanny resemblance to Runescape). In general, Melee combat consists of your mouse clicking an opponent, in which your character will rush up and hit said opponent for each click of the mouse. Also, your opponent should be knocked back as you complete the max amount of hits your weapon allows. In this game, Melee attacks can never miss.

But what about all those skills you have?

Skills should be incorporated into your own fighting style. When you activate your Skill, it will appear as a bubble above your character's head. You will also notice that this bubble seems to be growing and shrinking for a time. This is because all skills require a certain amount of time to ready, to charge. When this bubble stops this motion, it will remain set and you will hear a sound to confirm that you are ready to use the skill.

So how would you incorporate your Skills into Combat? Let's say that you're using the Beginner Eiry Sword. It has a maximum hit of 3 attacks. So you rush up to a Gray Wolf and hit it three times. At this time, it is knocked back with a stun, thanks to your weapon. Now, you can charge a skill that you think will help you win the battle. At this point, I suggest; Windmill, Counter, Defend, Icebolt, Thunderbolt. Of course, each skill has flaws (and some flaws can and will be exploited by enemies), so you must think on your feet and choose wisely.

Archery is much different from any game I've experienced. When you equip a bow and a quiver of arrows and click on an opponent, a percentage will appear above your character's head, growing rapidly depending on where your mark is. This bar represents the chances you have of hitting your opponent. The longer you wait, the higher the chances are of you landing an arrow square between your opponent's eyes. However, the highest the percentage can reach is 99% - thus, one an never be absolute in archery. Some Ranged Combat Skills include Arrow Revolver, Magnum Shot and Ranged Attack Mastery.

Magic is simple to use, but hard to effectively use. In this game, you can charge up to 5 shots of your chosen offensive magic. For each charge, something will change about what your spell will be capable of. For example, charging up Icebolt 5 times gives you 5 separate shots of Icebolt whereas 5 charges of Firebolt will result in one extremely powerful Firebolt. Magic also has a set range (and it's quite large).

Tip - holding the 'Alt' button will result in revealing names in a highlighted fashion. In addition, it will link a thread between your mouse and any hostiles in the area, so that you don't miss your opponent when you click.
Tip - each skill takes up a certain amount of Stamina, or Mana. Be careful about how you spend it - without Skills, you're as good as dead.
Tip - certain monsters have Passive Defense, in the form of Heavy Stander, Natural Shield or Mana Shield. These skills, depending on the levels of the skills, help the monster bypass your Melee, Ranged and/or Magic attacks. When these skills are activated, you will hear a metallic 'ping' and the opponent will momentarily flash a color and act as if your attack did not harm or slow it down in any form. At the highest levels, for example, 90% or more of your attacks will be rendered near useless.

    Items

Like in many other games out there, Mabinogi has a great deal of items. They populate your inventory and Item Bags and can greatly aid any player. They range from Potions to Scrolls to Equipment, Gems...the list goes on and on.

Equipment has special properties that make it distinguished from other items, the most obvious being that they can be equipped. Once equipped, your character sprite will be changed so that it shows your new equipment. Equipment, in general, focuses on boosting your defensive capabilities and showing off your fashion sense. Equipment can also be enchanted to boost stats, making them very useful. However, equipment cannot last forever. All equipment has Durability, and this will go down both as time passes and as you use it. This Durability, once at 0, will make the equipment near-useless. You can repair it at certain NPCs, for varying amounts of gold. However, be warned - different NPCs have different success rates. If the NPC messes up, you may end up losing max durability points, effectively shortening the life of your equipment.
Weapon Repairers include: Ferghus, Nerys, Edern
    Clothing Repairers include: Nora, Simon

Potions, like in many other games, are one-time use items. They come in many forms, but the most common are HP, MP and SP potions. They stand for Hit Points, Mana Points and Stamina Points, respectively. HP potions are red, and their primary purpose is to give you more Hit Points. However, it will not exceed the max amount of Hit Points that you have. MP potions are blue, and they function to give you more Mana Points, which also may not exceed your max Mana Points. SP potions are yellow, and give you more Stamina Points to carry out whatever you need done. They all have a default shortcut key - H for HP, J for MP and K for SP.

I wonder who's going to notice that most of this FAQ is gone now...it's under construction, I'll finish it soon.

    Oh RedFlag.

I feared that would happen. We're not guranteed to be beta testers...

;-; I really hope my sister, my gf, and I all become testers...

    -cries-

On topic, I already knew this stuff (Wikipedia FTW XD).

    Big Smile Yea...=P

DarkChime, I got most of my info from Wikipedia too. I also got a bunch from Mabinogi World and posts from people here. This is just for those people who don't research it. And, I think it's handy to have something like this here.

I'm going to be so disappointed if I don't get a spot in beta testing.  Been anticipating/waiting for this for so long! XD

    My comments on music:

Mabinogi music is typical MML based. Mabi compatible MML should be able to run on any program that plays MML, but I've heard that it dosn't always work the other way around. Contrary to popular belief, there are indeed guitar sounds- just really bad synthesized versions. One of the string instruments is actually based off of a guitar playing style for a certain type of guitar.

And for those that want to know the basics of MML, here you go. I'd appreciate it if somebody who has actual knowledge of music or MML to help me here. I made it a while back on a forum.

MML works with letter and numbers. To play a note, type in that note. It should be noted that one can place things behind letters to specify what that letter is meant to do and such. Typically, one will type a letter with a number behind it ([Letter]No, where n is a number). For example, to play an A note for one whole measure, one would type A1. n=1 is a whole note, n=4 is a quarter note, etc.

These letters are not notes that you play:

O is octave. Standard octave is 4 (aka O4), or middle C on a piano. An octave starts at C and ends at B. MML can handle 8 octaves.

R is for rest. R1 is a whole note rest, r4 is a quater note rest, r8 is half note rest, etc.

V is volume. 0 equals pure silent, 15 is as loud as you can get. Standard V for mml is 8 I believe, but normal Mabi background music is at 13 or higher.

L is basically a shortcut. The n after L will make all other notes afterwards the same n value unless you add an n value behind a note specifically. This is pretty useful. Say you want to play dozens of 1/32 notes. Add L32 and spam whatever note you want behind it. But if you want a whole rest in between, add an r1. The 1 behind the r will be 1 because you added a specific n value behind it. Standard L value is 4.

& joins "notes together." I forgot the music term for this common thing. Basically if you want to hold a note between measures etc., add the & in place of the arc you see in sheet music.

T is for Tempo. Standard mml tempo is 120.

n dosn't work on these (oh really!? y?):

    - equals flat.
    + or # equals sharp.
    > means raise 1 octave.
    < means lower 1 octave.
