Ever notice that some food has affects on your body? Weigh increase, Muscle Increase, Dexterity Increase and such. Your Character Can be utilized much more when it has massive muscles. Muscles can decrease the skill usage delay, which also means you can form strategies much more easier, and it can decrease knock back. Mainly Bread, Milk, and Cheese increase muscle, focus on those.
School, the educational processes, having classes there increases your EXP and Str, it's a worth while program if you wanna increase your overall dmg and injury rate. Note that this is very important when becoming a Warrior based character.
Having Strong Weapons can greatly help you, but the speed can also greatly hinder you. 2 Handed Sword is a Averagely Balanced Sword, but the Critical and the Speed is Slow, Not 2 Mention the fact that it's only 2 hit... HOWEVER, the power of the sword greatly makes up for the inbalance of speed and hit rate. Weapons that have A huge maxium attack and 1-5 minmum attack will hinder you GREATLY, unless you know how to make up for that inbalance.
Strong Weapons DONT NESSESARILY mean you will dominate with it, Daggers can Dominate Sword by Speed AND Critical, which is meaning you usually do more dmg than swords. However, the damage rate is small, so be wary of that.
Leveling up can be one of the hardest things to do in Mabinogi, If you are ever stuck at lvling, go to a dungeon not 2 easy and not 2 hard. Make sure you can beat the boss, if you cannot, then only fight the minions , not the boss. This can easily build up your $$$ Money/Gold by 100s-200s and fomor scrolls. Meaning as a warrior, you've perfected the Economy Required to dominate.
Blessings are VERY, and i say VERY important in ALOT OF THINGS. Questing usually takes up 2-5 Dura from your weapon, thats where blessings come in. It decreases your durability loss rate, and you cannot drop them when your dead, meaning saving 178k - 500k worth of an item, VERY VERY IMPORTANT FOR WARRIORS !!!!!!!!!! >:O To optain these things, you must get the water of lymilark from a priest of any town, do thier part time jobs and they pay you with Water of Lymilark, which is a very needed thing. Rmb, if you every buy anything precious , BLESS YOUR ARMORS AND WEAPONS.
Enchanting Weapons and Armors can boost up your Power Efficiently, Even elementing your weapons can Majorly increase your attack, but can Majorly Reduce it 2, so be sure to know what element your enchanting. To obtain the enchant skill, you need an enchant powder, once your equip it you gain the skill. 2 Scrolls can be used, Prefix and Suffix. A Good Prefix is Fine, that increases your Crit by 1, a good Suffix is Bloody, which can increase your HP by 4-7, however be warned, if your scroll fails INCREDIBLY, your item BREAKS PERMANETLY, leaving you with the dead weapon/armor.
To warriors, flashy armors are nothing, it's all about the stats, if you are not rich, and you dont wanna wear ugly armor, please dont call yourself a warrior, call yourself a Stylist.
To a Warrior, Damage and Defense is REQUIRED, Increase Combat Mastery AND Defense PLUS Smash or anything to increase your attack / defense in.

Hi, This is Valentine at Ruairi/ Ch1.
I am an active member at Mabiguru (mabiguru.com), and initially posted this guide at Mabiguru. However, just found out about this event. And thus, I am putting this guide here as well. I hope you can find this helpful. And this guide is also a subject to update upon upcoming mabinogi updates.

Tips1. If you play by yourself, it is very hard dungeon. If doing by party play, it gets really easy.2. Basic pass is really hard to get. 3. Spiders are multiaggro monster. Be careful and stay at corner4. Boss: This is the problem. Personally think that this is harder than Ciar Golem. HP is about 2500, and defense and protection is high. DMG easily passes 100 and round shield doesn't work that well. Use Kite shield. 5. Even if you have kite shield, if Defense rank is below Rank9. Non-critical dmg is 50, and critical dmg is 100. 6. So... I highly encourage doing party play. :)
Ciar:Easier than Ciar Normal. There is no archer. And more importantly, this dungeon gives giant and fox enchant. Mini Guide to success in a part-time job.
Basic Q&A
Q1.What is a job?
A1. A job is a simple way of making money without (Usually) leaving a town. The offers and rewards will vary but most will depend on your individual skill and ability to manage time.
Q2. How do I get a job?
A2. Most NPC's in Mabinogi will offer a job if you simply ask them. Just enter a conversation and ask about Jobs in the basic information section of your travel notebook. But remember that all jobs have certain work hours and a job can only be done once a day.
Q3. What are some qualifications? Rewards?
A3. A job can simply be taking a item from one person to another (Using your in-game knowledge) to making a product (Testing your skills and abilities) or finding a item (challenging both at the same time!). The rewards can vary just as much and often give you several choices upon completion to satisfy any desire.
Q4. I failed a job, what happens now?
A4. You won't receive the full reward if you report back when only half completed and you won't receive anything if you give up or return empty handed. Your free to try again the next day but I would suggest using your time better or increasing skills vital to the job.
Q5. I have excess materials/low room space, how do i fix it?
A5. Believe it or not you can actually complete a job with excess materials and the item out of your bag. Although you cannot use the materials for yourself or sell them you can drop or keep them (for whatever reason). Upon creating a item with no room in your bag a pop-up window will display your temporary inventory, which is similar to your character juggling the item in their hands, and if you complete your job before you drop the items then the NPC will gladly pick them off your shoulders. A good suggestion is to bank any items you won't be using for a while.
Q6. Why do i get different jobs and rewards?
A6. Although I can't say for sure I would guess it changes depending on the day/relationship between you and the shop-keeper/and possibly your current level. Depending on what town your in also greatly changes the wages and challenges. My suggestion is to talk to them as much as possible (After work hours) and keeping an eye out for when shop rewards increase because of the day-related buffs.
Q7. Is job hunting better than dungeons?
A7. I would have to say no but it really depends. On any given day I would hate to walk back and forth to a dungeon and shop to sell my drops but I also gain more money/exp per dive than I would if I had used the time for jobs. I also get a lot more company in towns and am less likely to be killed. So in short; it depends on the person.
Getting a Good Job:
Jobs are easy to obtain so anyone is able to apply, meaning that if you don't act fast the job slots will disappear and you'll have to wait to be employed. After starting the conversation about a job the NPC will usually give you a description saying "The money is good, if your up for it" implying that the rewards are high but the labor is also intense. For people at low levels this may be a great mistake, often times a NPC in charge of a clothing/smith/etc shop will ask for you to create a clothing/weapon/etc item. This is both risky (Depending on skills) and has a chance for high gain, but without the proper skill you will never be able to complete it.
Managing your time:
Signs can be much more than just eye candy, they can also be a great asset. Near most shops you can easily spot a sign or two and one of them will tell you the work hours of the shop. Working with this information you can plot to goto the clothing shop at 9am and the general store at 9:30am. But sometimes it isn't so cut and dry, many shops can have varying time of closing and if you run short on time then your likely not to complete a job. My best advice is to play around with your schedule and find a time that suits for you, usually one that includes doing as many jobs as you can handle and giving each a fairly long amount of time to complete.
Choosing a reward:
Rewards fall under 3 categories, Experience/Money/or Treasure. A Experience reward will have far more exp than money or a small item and large exp and is a good choice for low levels, or people about to level and don't want to run to a dungeon. A Money reward is often pure Gold or gold with a small item/exp, it is usually the best in my opinion because of its usability. A Treasure reward is usually worth more than the Money reward but should usually be ignored because of low sell-back price(The amount of gold you get for selling to a NPC). I'd suggest that you only choose this item if you know you will use it.
Types of jobs:
As I said before there are many types of jobs usually falling under the 3 categories of Creation/Delivery/or Quest. A Creation job will have you use materials from the shop to create a item via one of your skills (Smithing/Weaving/etc), and usually pay the highest and can be the most difficult. A Delivery job has you taking object-a into point-a and then returning to your employer, which often has you working for cheap but who can blame them. A Quest job is always different but has the second best rewards with good effort but is usually designed to eat up time and possibly have you fail because of it, such things as milking cows or gathering berries.
Using skills wisely:
Since creation jobs often give the best rewards you have to give up some of your skill points towards life-skills in order to increase your chances of completing the job. The Production Mastery skill is, above all else, probably the most important as it raises your chances of creating anything. Combine that with a Weaving skill B then your likely to make that Popo's shirt in less than a few tries. At the reverse, if you try to create iron ingots with the refining skill on Newbie then you can guess that your gonna be using all of your time and materials just trying to make 1.
If you want more in-depth knowledge, such as at what times the shops open and what specific rewards they give, then your at the wrong place. I feel such knowledge should be learned on its own, and quite frankly I'm too lazy to find it.
BluJay: How to be a potion maker and herbalist. Potion making- 1st thing- Head to a dungeon [like Ciar beginner] and gather some herbs [ you wont be able to gather sun herbs until later in this thread.] Base herb and blood herb will be needed others are good to collect for gaining levels above F but to Learn the skill you will need to concoct a few HP potions 2nd thing- You will Fail a lot at gathering herbs. To increase your gather rate of success, you will need to also level your “production mastery” skill. [it is not required to gather base, blood, sun or gold herbs but will increase your gather rate about 2% each rank.] 1.How to get production mastery to gather herbs better. A. Proceed through the beginner quests, then you will receive a quest to visit. Alissa at the windmill, she will then give you the production mastery skill for you to learn. (costing 1AP) 2. How to learn how to make potions. A. Equip a “potion concoction kit” Buy able from Dilly at the healers house for 1k or given at a bear killing quest later in game. B. The skill “Potion Making” will Appear in your [Skill] Window after equipping the kit. C. Click Use on the “potion making” skill in your skill window, and try to make 1 HP potion and successfully make 1 HP potion and you will be able to advance it to rank F. (requiring 1 AB point) Finale- You can now make up to 100 HP/MP/STA potions. You still tho cannot use the gold herbs until you gain the herbalism skill. Herbalism- 1.How to learn herbalism skill. A. Speak to Dilly in the healers house in Tir Chonaill, Do 4-5 jobs for her in a row and she will award you with the herbalism skill. NOTE- She will either ask u to deliver potions to random NPC or gather wool for band aids. So bring about 20-30 wool (she will ask for 10 at a time) and if you get those jobs you will be able to finish them much faster. If its potions its mostly- The inn Keeper / The blacksmith/ or the Chief. B. After receiving the herbalism skill you must attempt to pluck 1 base herb and then successfully pluck 1 base herb. Then you can upgrade it to rank F costing 5 AP but allowing you to pick Golden herbs to use in more intense potions. As you do good or bad your proficiency can increase along with you other skills. I am rank F potion making but I make 100 HP pots at 75 % effectiveness now. Because I do it so much. Potions 7-10 will range from 30-35% proficiency at rank F but can increase with successful made potions as well. Remember potions 9/10 will require the golden herb which requires u to have the herbalism skill. You can still make the rest of the potions without that skill. ~Summary~ These skills are essential to maintain life in Mabinogi and to utilize the herbs that will appear in your daily travels. These skills will not only save you money, from having to buy potions from the healers. Will also make you money if u decide to make a living out of it. Mabinogi Combat System Guide
Introduction
The Mabinogi combat system is one of the most well developed ones I have seen in any game. Most games it's just click, point, and you attack. In Mabinogi, you can do that, but you have other options. This combat system is like Rock, Paper, Scissors, shoot.
Smash Skill
The Smash Skill is the first of the three main combat skills you get in the game. This skill is mainly used for knocking down enemies or dealing a decent proportion of damage. When the smash skill is used, the player moves to its target, and uses it. Simple, right? Well, it's not like the Smash skill can't be avoided. Other players can avoid this skill by using Counterattack. However, there IS a possibility that it will still go through with the attack, but that is on rare occasions.
Defense Skill
The Defense skill is one of the most un-used of all the skills. Even I don't use it very much. However, it can be useful at times. Say your in the Alby dungeon arena. Your low on health, but so is your opponent. He runs at you, not using a skill, and you hit Defense as quick as you can. You block his attack, and give him a blow, and he dies. This is how it is useful. This attack will be terminated, however, if the opponent is using a smash attack. And if they're using a counterattack, until one of the skills is terminated, neither of the attacks will follow through.
Counterattack Skill
This skill is my favorite, because it IS useful. If you follow through with a succesful combo, you can then use the Counterattack skill to knock the enemy back over when he comes back up. It also works with a Smash attack. If the opponent uses a defense skill, you will not be able to hit them because they will NOT come to you. They will only roam around you. With smash attack, it sometimes beats it, but only on occassions. Alot of people get mad over the fact that they can't lay a decent Counterattack. This is because you MUST knock over the opponent before using the skill. Otherwise, it will not be ready by the time the opponent gets to you.
Windmill
This skill is not necassary, but it is useful against a bunch of enemies and occasionally Mimics. This attack is like a spin attack - Any enemy that is around you will be knocked back, giving you time to lay in some hits. To obtain the skill, however, you must talk to Ranald about Skills after learning the Defense skill. Here, most of you have the Legend of Zelda. In some of the games, Link can use a spin attack. Windmill is basically that.
What beats what
Defense > Regular
Counterattack > Regular
Counterattack = Defense
Counterattack >/< Smash
Smash > Defense
Windmill > Smash
Windmill < Defense
Windmill = Counterattack
Windmill > Regular
Smash = Regular
And so on..

My personal Windmill guide:
Windmill can be tricky to work at. It can take a long time, and be very costly due to it's HP expense for usage. Training at it can be a pain in the neck, especially since later on it does require quite a bit of usage.
But don't let that scare ya off.
Windmill is perhaps the single-greatest skill, in terms of stat gain, and usage, that you'll ever acquire.
What does it do?
Information on Ranks, damage, AP cost, and special effects:
While VERY costly later on, the radius increase more-than compensates. With this boost to it's reach, you can hit enemies before they can even attempt to swing on you.
Application of in combat:
Windmill shouldn't be used as an opening hit, unless you're facing Mimics. Windmill can wake-up those sleeping Mimics.
One usage of Windmill that works well in combat is combining it with normal weapon combos. The best weapon that this works with is a two-handed weapon. The stun time of the two-handed weapon gives the player plenty of time to ready a Windmill to swat them away. When your character begins to swing, try charging the Windmill skill, then when it's ready, immediately click and bat them away. This is useful in training against single monsters that may be too strong for Windmill to defeat on it's own.
Also know that Windmill also beats the pesky Counterattack stance. It's a good alternative over ranged or magical attacks.
For training it against multiple enemies, your best bet is within a dungeon. The orb rooms are my personal favorite. I try to hit all of the orbs, get all of the monsters to spawn, then observe their movements, and wait for them to group up. When they do, I run into the middle of them, charge Windmill as quickly as possible, and let it rip! Very dangerous, but can nail those pesky multiple target requirements.
NOTE: TO OBTAIN HIT MULTIPLE MONSTERS AND KILL MULTIPLE MONSTERS, YOU MUST PERFORM WINDMILL AND HIT AT LEAST ONE OF THE REQUIRED RANK (your level, strong) AND THREE OTHER MONSTERS (FOUR TOTAL)
When's the best time to train Windmill?
As soon as you start! Later on, Windmill becomes difficult to train due to stronger enemies having higher amounts of HP. That makes it hard to work it in with kills. Plus with your 'power level' (which controls enemy strength) being so high, it becomes ever-increasingly difficult to raise it.
Some of the training methods you'll see:
Most of that speaks for itself. The last hit must come from Windmill. Easy solution for this: Create a party, change Finish method to "Anyone in party." Now, when you knock an enemy down, they will have the Finish option on them. Windmill it for points.
Counterattack an enemy is difficult, and doesn't always work. The training method for this, as easy as possible, is to find a spider, and attack it, then run to a wall. Let the spider hit you. When it hits you, charge up Windmill, and as soon as it's ready, use it. If successful, you will hit the spider, and receive credit for your Counterattack. It MUST be when your character has been knocked away.
While it may be VERY difficult later-on to train, it will be worth it when you add up all those stats gained, and also gain a useful ally in dispatching monsters with Heavy Stander, since it bats them away 100%. Plus, some monsters are actually only affected by Windmill, such as Lycanthropes and zombies. It is something you will have to persist at and find ways to work it into your normal combat.

Mabinogi Ranged Guide
Gaining the Ranged Skills
The first step to becoming an archer is to acquire the two ranged skills: 'Ranged Attack' and 'Magnum Shot'. This can be done by talking to various NPC's in Tir Chonaill (the starting point of your Mabinogi adventure):
1) When you feel that you are ready to get started, find Trefor (located on on the path leading to Alby Dungeon) to learn about the most basic ranged skill: Ranged Attack. While in conversation with Trefor, use the keyword 'Skills' and hey will give you a new keyword listed as 'Ranged Attack' (accessible by choosing 'memo') as well as directions to visit his former teacher, Renald (located at the School). Talk to Renald, using the 'Ranged Attack' keyword that you have just acquired and he will inform you that you need to buy a bow in order to learn this skill; 'Bow' will then be added to your keyword log. In order to buy a bow, head over to Ferghus (the Blacksmith) and simply buy the Short Bow buy choosing 'Shop'. Also be sure to buy a bunch of arrows to get you started. To equip a bow and arrows, simply click and drag it to the left of your inventory; its correct placement will be indicated by a flashing box. Once you have done this, you will automatically gain knowledge of the Ranged Attack skill. You can then find out about how to train this skill by pressing 'S', which will bring up the 'Skill' window. Clicking on the 'Ranged Attack' skill, another window will appear stating the requirements that need to be fulfilled in order to raise the skills rank.
*As you complete each task, a bar will slowly fill up indicating your progress toward the next skill rank. Once the bar is full (it will appear in silver), you can advance it if you have the required AP. However, if you wish to gain full experience from training a skill (called 'Perfect Training'), you must complete all requirements fully – which sometimes involves 'Unknown Training Methods' which can be tricky to figure out. Perfect Training progress is indicated in red after basic training of the skill has been completed. All skills start of with the 'Novice' rank, then go from F-A, 9-1 (1 being the highest skill level).*
2) After learning the Ranged Attack, you can move on to learning the 'Magnum Shot' skill. In order to do so, talk to the village Chief Duncan (located at the 'Chief's House') using the keyword 'Magnum Shot' (you automatically acquire this keyword after learning the Ranged Attack skill). He will then you to talk to Trefor once again; use the same keyword with Trefor to receive directions to talk with Renald a second time. Repeat using the Magnum Shot keyword with Renald and you will finally gain knowledge of the skill. The Magnum Shot skill can be trained in the same fashion as the Ranged Attack (described above).
3) You can also acquire the free skill 'Support Shot' from Trefor. Just revisit him and select the 'Skill' keyword once again (after learning Ranged Attack) and he will inform you about this skill. Trefor will also teach you the importance of this skill and its significance in the 'respect of an archer'.
*Eventually there will be another ranged skill available for the bow through Arwanen in Dunbarton.*
*By learning the Ranged Skill, you will eventually receive a special quest which awards you 1 bonus AP after completion (Hunt 30 Red Foxes); additionally, by learning the Magnum Shot, you will eventually receive a quest 'To Reach Rank 9' in that skill (which awards 2 bonus AP upon completion)*
Using the Ranged Skills
For those new to the ranged skills, Ranged Attack is an archer's normal attack; raising its rank increases your 'DEX' (the main contributing factor to your damage output), aiming speed, and maximum damage. Upon a successful hit, the targeted monster will be stunned for a moment but will not be knocked back from the shot.
The Magnum shot is currently the archer's single 'special attack', which applies 2xx% of normal damage ranged damage with the included bonus of knocking the monster down upon a successful hit; each raised skill rank will increase its percent power over a normal ranged shot. One thing to remember is that the Magnum shot, while powerful, takes a while longer to aim than Ranged Attack; it also constantly consumes stamina until the shot is released unlike Ranged Attack which only uses a set amount of stamina to load the skill.
The skill Support Shot is perfect for supplying party members with a constant supply of addition damage when they need a little help. It features 130% of normal aiming speed, 90% of normal range, and 80% or normal damage. The reduced damage is mainly to ensure that the monster does not turn its attention away from the original attacker and start to head for you. As long as your damage is less than that being dealt by the other party member, you will be safe shooting at a distance. Be sure to time your shots correctly and to only release an arrow after the other player has ended his skill with a knockback; this reduces the risk of disrupting the battle and creating a potentially dangerous situation for the both of you.
If you're wondering what aiming speed is all about, firing an arrow with any given bow in Mabinogi requires you to first load the skill, take aim, and then fire. Clicking once with the left mouse button will load a skill. The skill you have chosen is clearly indicated by an icon above your character's head. While the skill is loading, the icon will appear to be flashing until it has fully loaded. Once a skill has been completely loaded, click again to start the aiming meter. Accuracy automatically rises to a maximum of 99% (when the targeted monster is stationary), 90% (when it is walking), and 80% (when it is running). It is recommended that you wait until the meter has risen over 75% before clicking again to release the arrow. Keep in mind that there is always a 1-20% chance that you shot will miss.
In order to make targeting monsters easier, hold down the right Ctrl button (to automatically target the monster closest to your cursor) and then use a skill. This saves both time and effort when dealing with a large mob.
*You may want to disable 'Reserve Attack Option" under Options>Game; change it to 'Once' or 'Not Used' in order not to automatically load a normal shot after your first shot and so on. This will save you some trouble, especially when chaining Magnum Shots one after the other. Choosing 'Multiple Times' will load a normal ranged shot after each shot and may be best suited when dealing with weak mobs.*
Keep in mind that aiming is much quicker and accuracy is much higher when the targeted monster is close to you – which only makes sense. Also, if you have used the method described above and are holding down the right Ctrl button whilst loading a skill, your cursor should indicate whether or not the targeted enemy is within range of your bow. It will state 'Range Out' if the target is too far away from your current position, in which case you can click to move to a closer location. This should allow you to get closer to the targeted enemy while still having the skill loaded and ready to go.
Useful Secondary Skills
Of course, you need the basic melee skills - 'Smash', 'Defense', and 'Counterattack' (which can be learned through the beginner's quests) - for emergencies and for when you run out of arrows. Actually, you can acquire Rank F in Defense, 'Combat Mastery', and 'Sharp Mind' just by completing the beginner's quests. What's more, doesn't cost you a single AP to raise those three skills to that rank.
Counterattack is the most useful for an archer as it prevents you from taking a hit, and at the same time, provides some distance between you and the targeted monster.
Defense is risky for an archer as it relies heavily on how much defense and protection you have. Unless you have decent equipment boosting these stats, use it only as a last resort. Windmill, which has a melee 'Area of Effect', is another skill which can also be used to counter an oncoming monster; however, be cautious when using this skill as it consumes 10% of your current hit points each time it is used.
The only other 'Combat Skill' that is highly recommend for an archer would be the 'Critical' skill. This skill can only be learned once you have received a critical hit from a monster. Increasing its rank will increase the damage inflicted upon a successful critical hit.
It is recommended that you leave Sharp Mind (gives you the ability to see what skill a monster is using) at rank F until a later time; this is because an archer's tactic is to down a monster before it even has a chance to use a skill against you. In any case, Sharp Mind does not work 100% of the time, and even then only works on the skills you currently know about (ie. you will not be able to see their unique special attacks). Eventually, as you become more experienced, you will learn to read the tendencies and patterns of certain monsters without ever relying on Sharp Mind.
Finally, any of the 'Life Skills' that adds DEX, 'WILL' or 'LUCK' can also be raised if you so choose that path.
*WILL increases your stamina and increases your chances of going into 'Deadly State' rather than dieing after receiving a deadly blow, while LUCK increases your critical rate.*
Getting Started with Ranged Skills
Starting out with just the two ranged skills can be quite challenging, which is why it is recommend that you raising those skills as soon as you are able to. Don't worry too much about completing Perfect Training for each rank as the experience bonus you receive is insignificant in most cases. Also if you are starting out with a new archer character and have another character available, it is suggested that you buy either a long bow or composite bow from Dunbarton for transfer to your new character. In this way, you can get off to training your ranged skills right away and have the advantage of the superior range than that provided by the short bows sold by Ferghus. The increased range is really helpful at the lower levels as your aiming speed and damage will prove to be lacking.
Useful Tips and Tactics
One strategy to use once your aiming speed and damage are decent, is to chain Magnum Shots one after the other. With around Rank C in Ranged Attack and Magnum Shot, you should be able to get your accuracy up to at least 80% for each successive shot. If each shot succeeds in hitting, you should be able to take out most monsters before they even get close to you. The knock back on the ranged Magnum Shot is one of the best in the game and can be compared to the melee Smash skill. Keeping the targeted monster knocked back and on the ground should be your top priority.
It is suggested that you use a title that increases your DEX, WILL, LUCK, or HP. One title that does so is the 'Bear Slayer at 10' title. However, it is suggested that you use the "Golem Slayer" or any other title that gives +10 DEX or more; the increased damage from the extra DEX is really a welcome bonus.
For even more damage, bring along some firewood to make a campfire within your hunting ground. Loading any ranged skill near a campfire will automatically set your arrow alight and give a decent amount of added fire damage to all of your shots.
*You can also acquire the "Fire Arrow" title through this technique (which is required for the advanced ranged skill 'Arrow Revolver' which is yet to be released)*
Another use for campfires is for 'trapping' powerful aggressive monsters such as bears. Larger monsters will often get stuck around sharp corners or any object in the way; if you place a campfire in the right location and position, you can create a sort of trap for your these monsters. I suggest placing a campfire as close to a small-medium sized tree as possible and then shooting a monster through the gap. Doing so will lure it into your trap and cause it to get stuck while trying to reach you. Even though the monster will not be able to move any close, positioning yourself at the right angle will allow you to attack it from a safe distance. Be sure not to use Magnum Shot, as that skill will release it from its bonds and it will be free to charge it you; use your normal Ranged Attack (which does not have the knock back effect) and rely on your criticals to quickly bring down large monsters. However, since the monster is indeed stuck, you have plenty of time to bring it down as long as you stay at that angle and at a safe distance. Of course, this will not work when facing other ranged or magic-based monsters.
Choosing Your Equipment
As far as bows go, there are basically 3 types and archer can choose from: Short, Long, and Composite. Short bows give good damage and speed at shorter distances, while long bows (sold by Nerys in Dunbarton) have the best range but are slow and sometimes inaccurate. Composite bows (also sold in Dunbarton) are basically a combination of the two and offer the best damage and critical available. Bows can be upgraded for increased stats such as +Balance, +Critical, and +Damage.
Arrows, can be bought at any Weapon Shop or Blacksmith in 20's or 100's. As a precaution, you should always carry about 100 spare arrows in your inventory at anytime in case you do not get a chance to restock.
*Other bows yet to be implemented include the Leather Long Bow and Guardian Bow (will be sold by Edern in Bangor).*
Armors or clothing? The choice is really up to you. Armors give nice Defense and Protection bonuses but cost a lot to both buy and maintain. I would suggest getting a Light Armor set as opposed to a heavy armor as archers rarely intend to get into close combat. Light Armors have 4 Defense 1 Protection as opposed to Heavy Armor's 6 Defense 2 Protection. 'Defense' decreases damage taken while 'Protection' reduces a percentage of critical damage received. All armor can be upgraded a certain number of times.
There is also the choice of using Clothing, which all offer the standard 2 Defense but 0 Protection. Clothing has the advantage of being cheap, easy to maintain, and fashionable. As such, clothing is very popular choice among archers. There is even a Clothing set designed specifically for archers called the "Sandra's Sniper Suit" set; it is sold by Simon at the Clothing Store in Dunbarton and includes the Suit, Hat, Gloves and Boots.
Remember that clothing can also be upgraded; three upgrades are available for any clothing (other than your Newbie Clothing): +5 durability, +1 defense +1 durability, +1 protection +1 durability. These modifications can be done at the Clothing Store in Dunbarton at the cost of ~20 proficiency and a considerable amount of gold.
*Proficiency is gained through using an item for its intended purpose (not applicable for gloves, hats, or boots). Doing so will raise the proficiency percent on that item, which can then my exchanged for upgrades at a specific NPC.*
Enchanting Your Equipment
The main concern for archers is that you will need plenty of 'Stamina' in order to carry out your ranged skills. Either enchant your gloves, hat, or boots (these are the equipments which cant be upgraded) or stock up on stamina potions - or better yet, do both! Other recommended enchants are +HP, +Critical, and +Balance.
*Enchant Scrolls can be obtained from treasure chests at the end of Dungeons (after defeating the boss) or bought from other players.*
Eating a Balanced Diet
For archers, it is recommend that you use the basic 'balanced' Mabinogi diet - Berries, Bread, and Water. If you constantly chow down those berries, you'll eventually gain semi-permanent DEX and INT bonuses (which are reset if and when you rebirth). This can come as a nice bonus for archers (and mages). Bread fills your hunger fast and keeps your body full - not too skinny, but not too fat. Water maintains your body shape as well.
*For those who don't know how to obtain Water, first venture to Dunbarton and buy an Empty Bottle from Walter at the General Store. Equip it, then either fill it up at the well there (near the church), or go back to Tir Chonaill and fill it up at the stream (near the Blacksmith). Of course, if you still have that Bottle of Milk you received from one of the early quests (Hunt 5 Grey Wolves), you can just drink up the Milk and use the Empty Bottle without paying anything (Bottles are reusable).*
Conclusion
Last point I want to make is to party! As an archer, you don't want to have to solo too often - there's always that 1-20% chance of your shot missing and you getting mobbed. Partying greatly increases your survival rate and usefulness until the other, more advanced, ranged skills are applied to the game - namely Arrow Revolver (fires a series of shots in succession with varying damage) and possibly Support Shot (which allows you to help a party member attack a monster without disrupting the battle). As for dungeon runs and various boss encounters, support your party by using Magnum Shot to knock back monsters if they gets too close . Well-timed shots are the key to supporting your party in these situations. Doing this also gives time for your melee-based party members to use their Smash skill while the monster is down and stunned or to apply a normal attack to cancel a potentially devastating skill.
[Guide Created by Relient]
A 10 year old musician's walkthrough:
When I first started Mabinogi, I wanted a musician because I liked to compose and play songs. I realized however that music has nothing to do with fighting, nor does it have anything to do with tailoring or any part time jobs that can earn you a lot of EXP. Furthermore, bards are currently limited to performers, since Emain Macha has not opened yet in North America. =( Here are a few tips (in retrospect) from my limited experience as a musician.
Main idea: To earn your living as a pure bard, it is important to have limited combat skills and magic, and to grab as much free EXP, money, and food as possible. I will discuss how APs should be placed, and give some additional thoughts on how to earn a living.
Here is a PRIORITY LIST of how your APs should be placed, from most important to least important.
1) Basic combat skills: 8 AP2) Bolt spell: 3 AP3) Music theory D: 3 AP4) Music composition D: 9 AP5) Production and magic mastery: 2 AP6) Instrument playing B: 15 AP7) Level up music skills to 9 for all: 25 AP (5 AP back for reaching music theory A)Total obtainable AP (as of generation 1): 40 APTotal AP required for a magical musician: 65 AP
65 AP is easily obtainable by adulthood or near adulthood, which you will probably be at by the time magical music is out in North American Mabinogi. Here are the leveling lists in greater detail.
1) Level up the basic/free combat skills. (8 AP)
While stronger combat skills are not essential to doing your first 3 main solo quests, which give you 9 extra AP, they make your life a lot easier for "save my sheep" and "malcolm's ring". These spells include:
a) Combat mastery E (1 AP)b) Smash F (1 AP)c) Sharp mind F (free)d) Defense F (free).e) Counterattack F (3 AP) <-- More on this later.f) Critical (3 AP)
I prefer firebolt for its effective knockdown against enemies and heavy damage. Musicians gain a lot of intelligence from leveling up their skills, and intelligence adds good damage and balance to the firebolt. However, you can get icebolt knowledge for free after the "hunting black wolves" quest. It might be hard for beginners to fight black wolves at first, but learning the fighting system of Mabinogi is useful. Your critical hits should also help significantly both in combat and bolting.
3) Rank up music theory to D. (3 AP)
Music theory serves 2 main purposes:1) Music theory enables you can play write harder scrolls and play harder music, thereby enabling you to level up to a rank B instrument player.Important time-saving tip: Find a private place, and compose some very short rank D songs. You can play your scrolls and level up your instrument playing much faster than playing random songs.2) Music theory drastically increase your intelligence by +5 for 1 AP each, thereby making your bolt spell more powerful. Furthermore, you gain 5 AP back for ranking music theory up to A (later generations), thereby essentially paying a net 3 AP for a whopping 35 intelligence at rank 9!
Where to learn:-Music theory can be learned by purchasing a ridiculously overpriced book (80k), or by doing several part time jobs for Aeira at the Dunbarton bookstore, and by showering her with poetry. Anthologies can be purchased at the Dunbarton general store under gifts. From my experience, Around 4 part time jobs + 10 anthologies are sufficient to win her heart over. She will give you a "welcoming look" when you are getting close. Click on "skills", and she will give you the book for free. -Music theory rank E and D are obtained by buying music history books at the bookstore for 4400 gold and 5600 gold respectively. However, you can receive a free rank E book if you level your instrument playing skill to D first.
3) Rank up music composition to D. (9 AP)
-Music composition can be learned by purchasing the book from the general store in Tir Chronall and the bookstore in Dunbarton for 500 gold.-Music composition rank E and D are likewise purchased from the Dunbarton bookstore for slightly more than 10k total. (Save your money!)
5) Learn magic and production mastery. (2 AP)
6) Rank up your instrument playing. (15 AP currently)
Remember to use the tricks hidden above:1) Rank up to D before learning music theory E to get a free book.2) Compose very short rank D scrolls to level up to rank B instrument playing.3) Keep your instrument playing skill near your musical theory skill level, as this allows you to play music that gives good results.
Additional thoughts on how to earn a living as a musician:
Don't be a street musician/beggar in Mabinogi--unless you're really darn good at composing music. =p I tried selling scrolls and begging for money before, and occasionally someone will drop by and pay around 500 or 1000 gold for a scroll. But it's much more cost effective and fun to earn your living the way other people earn it. Here are a few thoughts:
1) If you're not comfortable doing advanced hunting quests: Do part-time jobs in the day, and hunt/gather food at night.
I personally found Dunbarton an ideal place to tradeoff my day and night shifts. You can do up to 7 part time jobs (usually 6) if you time things perfectly. (Healer, Town Hall, General Store, Restaurant, Church, Bookstore, Weapon shop). At night, you can hunt gray rats for easy kills, fomor scrolls, and lots of cheese. Cheese raises intelligence, strength, MP, and stamina, which are excellent for battle. Consume the cheese to fill your hunger/stamina in the daytime while doing your part time jobs.
2) If you want dungeon money/EXP/items, learn how to enchant or heal. (1-3 AP)
You get very nice success rates on enchanting as a result of your high intelligence, so might as well use it. With your high success rate, you can also enchant your own collected armors and weapons and sell them for money.
If you are raiding dungeons such as ciar, enchant other people's items in exchange for partying with them. If they aren't satisfied with enchants and bolts, heal them. If they're still not satisfied, bring along 3 sets of firewoods. They basically act as free bandages for all. XD
3) Master the bolt and counter combo!
This is HIGHLY recommended! If you can perfect this combo, you can even hunt the ogre at the end of the hunting quests! The hunting quests are the best way to level up to 27-28 quickly, and earn a lot of money/items. Likewise, you can solo alby/normal and ciar beginner for decent experience, money, and enchant scrolls.
Best of luck to all the musicians out there!
One method a newer player can use to accumulate enough gold for those high-end weapons and armors, as well as earn great experience points, is to follow a simple daily routine in
Dunbarton: (levels 10+ or so)
You should have some weaving/loom experience and tailoring for the best results, but neither are necessary!
1: 7:00 a.m. "Errin" time report to Town Center first, take a P/T job. You can usually complete this one (delivery) within an hour of "Errin" time. You'll need to wait until one "hour" of gametime has past to report back.
2. Next, go to the General Store and do aother p/t job. This one should take an hour of "game time" as well.
3. Next stop is the tailor shop (clothing) right next door. Again, this should take just a short while of "game time".
4. After that, hit up Nora's restaurant for another delivery job. Again, these are fast jobs and can go quickly!
5. Once you've completed the Restaurant/Grocers p/t job, you can fly right over to the bookstore for another one!
6. The last stop on your "daily" routine can be the Weapons vendor for another p/t delivery task.
By following the above plan, and taking shorter routes between tasks, you can complete all of the above in one "Errin" day. You can earn from 150 - 600 gold per job, various pieces of food/equipment, or select high experience and less gold for your rewards! I have earned over 1200 experience points in one "Errin" day, and over 2000 gold.
For th "intermediate beginner" at level 10-12 or so this is a REAT way to level up and earn that fat bank accunt for al the necessities of the game!
Cooking mmm... have you ever wanted to be a master cheft? now you can with cooking.
What Is Cooking?
Cooking is a skill in which you prepare food by mixing, baking, boiling, etc. to the food. Each food is done with a combination of 2 to 3 ingredients. When done properly, food can achieve 5 stars food levels. These are the GOOD food that people would like to eat. Each stars on the food means the effect felt by eating it multiply by 20%. For example a 3 star food can only yield 60% of the effects from the stat gain by eating that food.
Why Cooking?
Cooking is an important skill that a lot of people have overlooked. Stamina bar is divided into two different bars. First one is how exhaused the character is. When this number reaches 0 the character can not do many actions. This can be easily filled by either resting, eating, or drinking a stamina potions. The second one is your hunger bar. This hunger bar will constantly drop until 50% where it will remain constant from then on. Hunger effects the amount of stamina points the character uses. If the character is trying use stamina in a zone where hunger level is below that bar, the amount of stamina used is triple. Therefore it is wise to keep hunger level at a relatively high amount so the stamina efficiency is at 100%. Also stamina potions recover less than stated when it is trying to recover stamina that is outside the satisfied hunger level. The only way to fill back up hunger is by eating.
What Does Cooking Do?
Cooking is good for other effects too. As stated, all food will alter to your permanent stat for your character if enough of it is eaten. When i say alter it does mean that it can increase OR decrease status. Therefore sometimes it is wise to watch out what you eat.
Where To Learn Cooking?
Cooking is a skill that can be obtained from Glennis in Dunbarton. Talk to her about skills and she will give a book for you to read. Advance read it and you will learn the skill cooking. It starts with just mixing, but advancing it will enable more options for you to cook with. For each level of cooking, a book must be read in addition to the practicing of cooking to rank up. For up to rank D, books that are needed are found in the bookstore in Dunbarton.
Where To Get Ultensiles For Cooking?
Each city have a person who sells these appliances. (sometimes there are too many tabs on the top, just scroll over using the right triangle found next to the tabs to see more tabs)Tir - NoraDunbarton - WalterBangor - Jenifer
How To Cook?
When adding ingredients, you only need one of each in each slot. Then click the "ADD" button under each ingredients to add them. As you press the "ADD" button, a gage on the bottom of that window will start increasing. When clicking the "ADD" button, it does not mean 1 click is 1 percent, it is by the gage filled in relation to how much is left is the percent added. When you are done adding one ingredient, go to the next one. Keep track of where you left off so you can have a better sense of how much percent was added for second ingredient. When the gage finally fills up, the start buttone becomes available. Click it to procede to cooking. If all was done correctly, the food should turn out to be 5 stars.
Where Can I Find The Recipes?
If you want to know recipes, start talking to Glennis about skills, every now and then she teaches you a new recipe, but this is just a starting point, it usually ends up with 3 star food if you follow it perfectly. Books also gives you hints on how to cook food too.
Other Resources
Wiki World have a pretty good recipe list for players to make food. A side note on that, round the percentages to nearest 5%, cooking doesn't need to be perfect, instead of getting 8%, 10% is fine, it will still yield a 5 star food.Good Place To Start Practicing
It might be difficult to reach 5 stars first try, but cooking is a skill where it is based on how well you gage each percentage. Practice with 2 ingredient food first since it is easier. A good way to start off is to first gage certain percentages like 5%,10%,15%,20%,25% and using those estimated length figure out the other percentages. If your eyes can't seem to gage the distances effectively, use a ruler if need be, but the bar will keep going up and down a bit so even a ruler can't help you 100%.Here are just 2 of the many recipes found on the wiki site, it is recommanded that practice these 2 till you can constantly get 5 stars on the cooked food first before trying new things out.MixingCheese Bread => 20% cheese, 80% breadBakingFried Eggs => 8% salt, 92% egg
The BEST way of raising your skill is to DEFINATELY level up on the the simple monsters while using one skill at a time.
All it take a little hard work and consentrating on your goal, which is to have the knowledge of which skill to use.
When you start you have to level up the skills that have ? for them, but the two first skills are the most important, besides the production but the first two allow a player two get quests done for more skills.
