Raising Your Character
This is a guide with some handy tips for someone who needs them.
1) This is a build that you can use if you do not have much money for armor and other defensive things. This is a life saver if you have a young character. I usually start out with any character by putting a lot of AP into combat mastery. I would say get it to rank c at least but if you don’t need the defense quite at that time, then you may raise it up to rank a, but in result you will have less defense. Now that you have a low rank of combat mastery, you may now start to add to defense and you should probably get it to rank c also, but keep in mind, if you get your combat to a fairly high rank, you may not have any AP left. If you only get these skills in your build, you may have them both at rank c at level 10. You will be hitting fairly high and monsters will be hitting almost nothing on you because of your extra basic defense resulting from the defense skill. Once you get both of these skills to rank c, you may add the rest of your AP to other skills like windmill, smash, critical, and even counter attack.
2) This is a more offensive build and kind of not defensive at all. The first thing is to get your combat mastery to rank a. This will take A LOT of AP. Well not a lot, only 24 AP. You will probably be level 15 when you have enough AP but you must have completed the 3 quests that each give you 3 AP, Malcolm’s ring, Rescue the citizen, and Save my sheep. This is for a 10-year-old(AP gainage). Once you have rank a combat, then you should add to either smash, or windmill, but no other skill unless you would really like too.

1. General Quests
Before I go over by every quest remember, you must do quest you have recieved. These are like continous quests. If you don't do one before that, you may not able to get next one. And each quest will lead you where you need to go right now, so don't worry where you should go.
1. Meet Duncan : This is the first quest when you just started playing Mabinogi. As u see Nao after you just created character, you will recieve this quest. It's is easy quest. Duncan is the chief of town Tir Cornail. He is at 9 o'clock direction(east) by minimap from square. You can see biggest tree in Tir there. 2. Rescue town resident : After first quest, you will recieve this quest to meet Trefor, and he will teach you how to use smash skill. Smash skill will help you attack monster at better way. He will ask you to hunt 5 brown foxes. It's easy, so don't worry about it. But after that, you have to enter Alby dungeon with special pass that is given by trefor. To clear this easy way, you must get all 4 basic active-combat skills. They are Smash, Defense, Windmill, Counter. Monsters in Alby dungeon usually just atk or stay where they are. But there are spiders which use defense skill(just like foxes). That's why Trefor taught you how to use smash skill. Fighting by 4 basic active-combat skill will be concidered at later.(reward: 3 AP + @) 3. Save my Sheep : As you are playing, Deian The Shepherd boy will call you. As you talk with Deian, you will be able to enter(you must say that you will do it when you are talking to Deian) the special map where no one else can come and there are sheeps and gray wolves. Gray wolves will attack sheeps as they get close to sheep. You have limitied time to save at least one sheep. If you lose all sheep before countdown, you have to start over the quest. So use your character wisely. Run around the side between wolves and sheeps, and if you think wolves are close to sheep, so they will atk sheeps, go attack them first. And if other sheep is getting attack, help them too! Otherwise just move around so as soon as wolves attack(or try to) sheeps, you can save sheep(s). (reward: 3AP + @) 4. Malcom's Ring : When you recieve this quest, you will be asked to enter alby dungeon by special pass that is given by Malcom. For this quest, you must have counter skill, because it's basically same as rescue the resident quest, but the boss at the end is Gold Spider, which will get damage only 1 damage before you do any counter attack. As you counter more, the damage that Gold Spider gets will be bigger. (reward: 3AP + @) And following quests are what you will recieve as you are playing, and no need to fight Playing Instrument : Talk to Endelyon, the priestess of church, you will recieve 1 lute for this quest. Do you know Making Mastery skill? : Talk to Ellisa, you will recieve skill Making Mastery skill. Rest skill : Talk with Nora by start converstaion and press on 'skill'. You will be able to get rest skill. Deliver berrys : Deliver berry(s) to Dillys at healer shop. Gather small green gem : Gather small green gem from while you are hunting, or you can hit anything near you that's bulletin board or street light. And deliver it to Bebinn. Visit Dunbaton : Visit Stuous at library at Dunbaton. Collect 5 potatoes : collect 5 potatoes from north side of Dunbaton city by weeding hoe that is selling by black smith npc(both Tir cornail and Dunbarton). Visit Bangor : Visit Bangor and talk to npc that quest leads you. And you will also recieve the quests, which are hunting quests. as you don't do it right now, you will be able to recieve the next one until black dire wolves quest or later. So It is wise you wait for one-erin day(game day), and if quest doesn't come any more, go finish it to recieve next quests. And these hunting quests are not like way you get title, to get title of slayer of something, you must do most damage, but these quests, you only have to do finish, remember that. The hunting quests will ask you to hunt all kinds of monsters where you can meet at field, not dungeon. But after Ogre, You will recieve dungeon boss quest, which are Small golem(boss monster of Ciar beginner dungeon, but this one is also able to defeat by normal Ciar dungeon, and I think this is bugged unless GM of Mabinogi made it able to), Hellhound(boss monster of Mass), Succubus(boss monster of Rabbie when you are soloing:means no one else should be in the dungeon when you open the boss room), Golem(boss monster of normal Ciar dungeon, but this one also can be cleared by beginner one, which is small golem), and Ogre Warrior(boss monster of Barri dungeon). All others are you can finish with others help, but Succubus, you can only see that monster by opening the boss door of Rabbie dungeon alone. If you open with others, you will see gold goblins and goblin archers instead. Remember, you only have to open the door alone.
1. Meet Duncan : This is the first quest when you just started playing Mabinogi. As u see Nao after you just created character, you will recieve this quest. It's is easy quest. *Some of quests may be missing or wrong named because I can't get on Mabinogi to check if it's right spelled.
How to be a potion maker and herbalist.
Potion making-
1st thing- Head to a dungeon [like Ciar beginner] and gather some herbs [ you wont be able to gather sun herbs until later in this thread.] Base herb and blood herb will be needed others are good to collect for gaining levels above F but to Learn the skill you will need to concoct a few HP potions
2nd thing- You will Fail a lot at gathering herbs. To increase your gather rate of success, you will need to also level your “production mastery” skill. [it is not required to gather base, blood, sun or gold herbs but will increase your gather rate about 2% each rank.]
1.How to get production mastery to gather herbs better.
A. Proceed through the beginner quests, then you will receive a quest to visit. Alissa at the windmill, she will then give you the production mastery skill for you to learn. (costing 1AP)
2. How to learn how to make potions.
A. Equip a “potion concoction kit” Buy able from Dilly at the healers house for 1k or given at a bear killing quest later in game.
B. The skill “Potion Making” will Appear in your [Skill] Window after equipping the kit.
C. Click Use on the “potion making” skill in your skill window, and try to make 1 HP potion and successfully make 1 HP potion and you will be able to advance it to rank F. (requiring 1 AB point)
Finale- You can now make up to 100 HP/MP/STA potions. You still tho cannot use the gold herbs until you gain the herbalism skill.
Herbalism-
1.How to learn herbalism skill.
A. Speak to Dilly in the healers house in Tir Chonaill, Do 4-5 jobs for her in a row and she will award you with the herbalism skill.
NOTE- She will either ask u to deliver potions to random NPC or gather wool for band aids. So bring about 20-30 wool (she will ask for 10 at a time) and if you get those jobs you will be able to finish them much faster. If its potions its mostly- The inn Keeper / The blacksmith/ or the Chief.
B. After receiving the herbalism skill you must attempt to pluck 1 base herb and then successfully pluck 1 base herb. Then you can upgrade it to rank F costing 5 AP but allowing you to pick Golden herbs to use in more intense potions. (untill your at rank F herbalism you will still experiance much trouble gathering the golden herbs.)
~Potion Recipes~
NOTE- Base potions [empty bottles] (which can be bought in groups of 10 at healers house) are needed for all portions more then 50 HP/MP/STA as well as wound remedy 30 and the HP/MP 50 potion.
1.Stamina 50 Potion – Sunlight herb 1 / Base herb 1 [yellow/green]
2.Stamina 100 Potion – Sunlight herb 1 / Base herb 1 / Base potion 1 [yellow/green/bottle]
3.Mana 50 Potion – Mana herb 1 / Base Herb 1 [Blue/green]
4.Mana 100 Potion – Mana herb 1 / base herb 1 / base potion 1 [blue/green/bottle]
5.Life 50 Potion – Bloody herb 1 / base herb 1 [red/green]
6.Life 100 potion – bloody herb 1 / base herb 1 / base potion 1 [red/green/bottle]
7.Life & Mana 30 Potion -bloody herb 1 / mana herb 1 / base herb 1 [red/blue/green]
8.Life & Mana 50 Potion - bloody herb 1 / mana herb 1 / base herb 1 / base potion 1 [red/blue /green/bottle]
9.Wound remedy 10 potion – Golden herb 1/ bloody herb 1 / mana herb 1 / base herb 1 [gold/red /blue/green]
10.Wound remedy 30 potion - Golden herb 1/ bloody herb 1 / mana herb 1 / base herb 1 / base potion 1 [gold/red /blue/green/bottle]
TIP- Potion 1-6 will be at 50% chance when you first start skill... best way to level would be those potions. As you do good or bad your proficiency can increase along with you other skills. I am rank F potion making but I make 100 HP pots at 75 % effectiveness now. Because I do it so much.
Potions 7-10 will range from 30-35% proficiency at rank F but can increase with successful made potions as well.
Remember potions 9/10 will require the golden herb which requires u to have the herbalism skill. You can still make the rest of the potions without that skill.
~Summary~
These skills are essential to maintain life in Mabinogi and to utilize the herbs that will appear in your daily travels. These skills will not only save you money, from having to buy potions from the healers. Will also make you money if u decide to make a living out of it. (remember the stores sell 10/30 hp potions for 1,400) Using these skills will improve your stamina, production, gathering and mana over time. So they are great general skills to improve your base skills. Give it a try and you could be the next Mabinogi Potion Master......
2. Combat System & active-combat Skills
Mabinogi is real-time combat game. You must know how to use skills, and when to use them. As going through this one, I must mention several active-combat skills. I'll list the skills those are released right now.
As you are going for magician or archers or warrior or mixed, there's skill u must learn at least as novice or F rank to use it.
They are Windmill, Ice bolt or Fire bolt.
Windmill is need as you can attack multiple monsters around you, when you are doing any ranged(or magic) attack, sometimes monsters get close enough, so before that, u use windmill to knock them down and earn more time to any ranged attack. It is good with non-ranged warriors, too.
Ice bolt or Fire bolt is needed only if you don't have any ranged attack. Some of monsters will try to attack you by ranged attack(either by arrow or magic). So you need to stop them before they cast skill enough to attack you successfully.
For example, Let's see fighting against spiders and wolves.
As I mentioned, spiders use only defense skill, so as you will see it using skill, it's using defense, so cast smash fast enough, and use them on it. When spider(s) is attacking you, you use either defense skill or counter(you can also use windmill). But remember, you must use the skill alternatively. If you try to use same skill after, it will take more time to cast. So imagine if spider is keep coming to attack you, lets say you use defense first, and then you will be able to attack spider after it attacked you, when you knock it down, you use counter(alternatively). after that, you use defense again. Even if your damage is so small, if you are keep following this, you will be able to kill spiders.
Wolves use some skills. Smash, Defense, and Counter. You know when to use your skill against monster's skill, so I'll tell you when wolves are using which skill.
So if enemy is using Smash skill, you can either counter or do normal attack, because normal attack is faster than smash, so you won't get attack.
If monster is using defense, use smash.
If monster is using counter, do ranged attack or get close to it and do windmill.
Overview of Dungeons
Introduction
Dungeons are a big part of Mabinogi, especially for fighters. A dungeon consists of an altar at the entrance, a number of floors with rooms and hallways, a boss room and last but not least the treasure room! So how do you get to that shiny treasure? Well you'll have to defeat the dungeon boss to get to it.
So, are you ready to go into the dungeon? Wait! You have to prepare first. The biggest mistake you can make is to go in head first without supplies. If you run into trouble in the dungeon you can't get new potions and bandages. Find a healer's house and buy HP potions and bandages for the dungeon. Don't forget feathers if you want to be able to revive your party members. OK now you can go ahead.
Which dungeon should you enter then? There are a few dungeons to choose from in the beginning:Alby, Ciar, Rabbie, Math, Barri and Fiodh.Minimum level recommendations
Minimum party members recommended
The minimum recommended number of party members are not by any means exact numbers to go by. These are only guidelines and you will probably find out yourself with your party that the numbers differs depending on how skilled the members in your party are.
For starters you should try Alby or Ciar. To enter the Beginner level of Alby Dungeon you will need to talk to Trefor outside the dungeon. He will give you a beginner pass. For a Ciar Beginner pass, talk to Ranald at the school in Tir Chonaill. These two dungeons are the only dungeons with beginner levels.
How dungeons work
To enter any normal dungeon, drop any item on the altar. The altar is the square stone beneath the statue. To enter at beginner level, drop the beginner pass. To enter at the basic level, drop a basic pass. Basic passes are dropped by monsters on normal level and can be found in chests on normal level too. If you are the leader of a party, make sure all your party members are on the altar before you drop the item or they will not enter the dungeon with you.Now a dungeon will be randomly generated. For Alby Beginner and Normal dungeon there's only one floor. You will be able to see the whole map from the start but in later dungeons you won't be able to see the map until you have walked there. When you've dropped your item you'll be in the entrance of the dungeon. The difference is that now the dungeon is generated. Clicking the statue here will teleport you out of the dungeon. To proceed into the dungeon, go down the stairs behind the statue. Clicking the statue in this room will memorize your location. For every floor, memorizing is important because if you die you can choose the option "revive at the last statue of goddess", which will bring you to the last memorized statue. The rest of the dungeon is pretty straight forward. When you enter a room with a chest, opening that chest will summon monsters. Defeat them and one of them will drop a key which will be used further inside the dungeon to open a door. Some hallways lead to dead ends because the dungeons are randomly generated. Sometimes you will see fountains. Clicking a fountain will randomly give you something or take something from you. Eventually you will reach the boss room. The boss can either be alone, have minions, or there can be more than one boss. If the boss has minions it is advised to take them out first so there will be no distractions. If there is more than one boss it is advised to take them out one at a time. When you have defeated the boss and all the minions, everyone in the party gets a treasure chest key that unlocks a chest in the room behind the boss room. You will receive money and sometimes other things like enchant scrolls or equipment when opening those chests. Next, click the statue in the middle of the chest room to teleport back to the altar.
Summary
The dungeons range from easy to hard and only you yourself can decide what dungeon to do. Some people like to keep doing the easy dungeons and some people like the challenge of harder dungeons and don't mind the occasional death. Hopefully you will find a couple of dungeons that suits your style.
Good Luck!
Here is my guide:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAVtX0VGz-YIt's a video guide showing all the combat skills and how they work. After it shows you some general strategies which work for most monsters. It also shows skills which will be released later in order to give people a clearer idea of what thy want to be from the start e.g. mages may not know that they get advanced magics later and some archers may not know about the arrow revolver skill.
It seems like lots people went over part-time jobs part by specificly. So I'll just briefly go over.
Part-time Jobs is where you can get money and experience(exp) or item(s) as reward. There are several places for each town where you can do part-time jobs. But it won't be just for money and exp or items. If you are learning any Life-skills, like weaving, tailtoring, or so, you can get those skills' experience by part-time job. So don't just think hunting is the best way to earn money and exp.
For example, Malcom at General shop of Tir will ask you to do either deliver the item or making some clothes for him. So if you are tailtoring, there's good chance you can increase your skill exp faster, rather than getting materials for it.
Part time jobs are available from morning to night time, so consider when Eweca isn't appeared yet. Specific times are you can find at bulletin board every shops or npcs' front.
4. Skills
Since lots people go over throught specific skills, I'll again be brief.
There are 3 categories for each skills. Combat, Life, Magic. I'll list all the skills which are released right now.
Each skills are required to use ability point(AP) to rank up, so whichever skill you are going to run first, you must use AP wisely since it's limited.

Content: General Overview and Discussion, N+1 & N+2, Bow and Arrow for Beginners, Counter, Critical Hit, Combat Mastery, Smash, Windmill, Recommendations
NOTE: Please go to your game options and select the option to enable using the ESC key to quit using the current skill. If you do not want to do this please remember at all times you can quit your current skill by clicking the bubble created above your head while using skills.
The combat system is quite simple! First of all you should "know your enemy." The more you study your enemy and know what it's next move should be; the more you will know what skills best fit the moment. There are several small creature that you can kill easily: white spiders, grey wolves, red, brown, and grey foxes, and town rats of various colors. If you are too weak to hit much of anything I recommend you start across from the healers house or at the Alby Dungeon. You don't even have to train unless you feel you're ready or determined so don't feel pressured by others about this subject! Across from the Healer Dilys(North-west part of the map) there will be foxes.
Foxes are easy! N+1 is something that should be learned on these weak animals. This is, from what is known, a user-based word. It is sometimes called an elite move. N+1 is just stating that you used a two hit weapon as if it were a three hit weapon. The Combat System is based mostly around timing. Without trying to time anything you would get this result (man with black hair and blue shirt laying in grassy knoll, lifeless). I usually have a two hit weapon. It is hard to use this user-based skill with certain weapons; others it comes naturally. Usually right after your character pulls back from it's first swing it will "step back" while your character is stepping back there is a moment there where the monster is still not moving from shock and time enough to restart your attack. Thus creating multiple hits that the weapon isn't used for. I bring this up early due to the fact that when this information arrived I suddenly began killing just about anything I wanted. It has made me a bit . . . suicidal though.
If you're really not feeling this N+1 you can always just use basic strategy instead. Although magic does cost alot of money and AP it does have it's benifits. Just getting Fire and Ice Bolt gives you plenty of weapons to work with. Ice Bolt can be used to gain massive amounts of space between your enemy and yourself. I have used magic then Counter Attack and sufficently beat several harder enemies that way. If the creature is still alive after hitting with the largest Fire spell or with several Ice Bolts plus a Counter Attack; try retreating three four steps and attacking. If your weapon is faster than the creatures attack, you will hit first or hit at the same time. If the creature is too fast for your weapon(yes, the faster the weapon, the more likely you will hit first; and vice versa) you may need to upgrade weapon or try to gain space between your enemy. I was using a slow hatchet and was usually getting hit after a retreat by young goblins; I picked up a wooden stick which is normal attack not slow attack and I was able to hit more sucessfully after a retreat.
The Bow and Arrow is a different creature all together. I mean metaphorically of course. The game has already pre-setup your character to use your second weapon once you've been knocked down from your enemy. So let's say you have learned Magnum Shot(200% enemy damage, 50% bad injury) and you are in attack mode building up your percentage ready to strike. Strike once if it is shorter range strike twice if you feel your "timing" is right. Your second strike should be regular attack unless you've mastered escaping your current skill and using different skill quickly. After these two shots, press ESC key since your character will be trying to use bow again and then try to hit Counter Attack if there is enough space. Defend is also a great skill to use at this time. if you do not want to use counter or defend because you feel you are too close to the enemy you should retreat a few steps back and attack your enemy with your second set of weapons(sword, axe, hammer). I've learned that if you retreat instead of having auto battle on, and then charge forward it takes off the penalty where you were suppose to be "off-balance" due to attack and are most vunerable; therefore you have a much higher percentage of being the first to attack.
As you have noticed I have discussed Counter Attack numerous times. I do use Counter Attack several times while training. I find it important as do many others; we do stress however that this is Your online life and you should do whatever pleases you. If you do find counter useful here are some things to remember. Counter Attack even works against smash, During use with golem it only works only if the golem swings at you; it doesn't work if the Golem hits the ground knocking you down. You should only use Counter Attack if you have enough room for the time needed to charge the skill, and Counter Attack is as useful as you make it; using hotkeys is an easy way to use more skills faster!
Critical Strike enables more power with every hit! WHO doesn't love more power? Critical Strike works with your magic skills as well as melee and ranged. It is passive. The first time you upgrade Critical Strike you will get a very large percentage to start off with. If you want to advance other skills I would still recommend having this skill at least in it's smallest stage(+50% damage).
Combat Mastery adds massive amount of health points each level and is a critical element in a character that advances easily. It is an expensive skill to learn advanced stages but it helps a character build with a "solid foundation." If you are wanting to be the "warrior or knight" I recommend advancing this skill early and often.
Smash is used by some players more than others. I do not use Smash often but others choose to level the skill to more advanced stages. I tend to use on the Golem on Normal Ciar Dungeon more than anything else(I am lower level). Smash is most handy at that time other than Counter and "run." Some players use it with easy animals such as the brown foxes we discussed earlier because it breaks through their weak defend skill. This skill in general will break through anyones defend skill. However it will not break through Counter Attack! This is when Sharp Mind would be a good skill to have a few points in. You could distinguish between Defend and Counter Attack while using the Smash skill! Some players believe you can "read" enemy movements but I am unable to distinguish between some of the skills they use therefore I have advanced Sharp Mind (not too many skills in beginning, just to rank E or C).
I will be honest: I do not have Windmill, but I am choosing not to have windmill. I do not have reasons other than it's just not my style. Others find this skill extremely useful for an all around attack. It's almost like using a Two-Handed Sword. It hits all surrounding enemies. It's very useful in party situations where you can allow yourself to hit several enemies and know your party members won't allow you to be crushed. I would advise a full on attack or a counter move after using windmill because several enemies may come straight for you. I believe it would be excellent to have windmill and have a Two-Handed Sword because both kinds of attacks hit surrounding enemies, as well as both the Windmill skill and the Two-Handed Sword knocks back your enemies so you have time for Counter or another skills charge time. However Windmill does have it's fallback. It take 10% Hp when used, so it should be used with caution; I still feel it's a very good skill to have especially for knights or warrior types.
There will be times where you feel like you can challenge animals that are much harder than you think. I recommend Doing Alby Dungeon and questing until level 15-20. Black Wolves should not even be walked near unless you have advanced combat skills(can be magic; whatever you wish); they are territorial and will attack without notice. Foxes and White Spiders will level you fast enough and they aren't quite as annoying as Grey or Black Wolves. I do not recommend doing Ciar Normal until you are AT LEAST level 20 for beginners and usually if you don't have a decent party I would recommend a higher level than that. Ciar beginner solos are the best way to earn money and experience as long as you save former scrolls. I do not recommend proceeding to other dungeons unless your level is above 25 or your character has been built exceptionally well. Red spiders are harder than white spiders but I have just become a master at using magic and "deteriorated walls" to trap the spider until I have chosen my next course of action. If you do find yourself unable to level easily you may have added too many life skills and not focused on combat skills. If you feel this is the case, quest until you have more AP and force yourself to make your character stronger. Or do what I did and redo your character since it was your first ever ^^ I didn't have the slightest bit of regret and now I feel my character is able to move along more easily now that I have learned more about Mabinogi.
If any new people would like help I'm in the Mari server and I'm almost always ready to help:D sometimes however you may catch my character and I will be afk. I do get back to anyone who sends me notes.

What a tangled web we Weave
Learning To Weave?
Weaving is perhaps Mabinogi's most challenging life skill to master. It will require endless hours of torture spinning threads, weaving cloths, and cutting leather. Only the most dedicated will master the Loom!
To learn the weaving skill simply visit Malcolm inside the General Store with some cobwebs in your inventory and ask him about skills. You're not done yet!!! Now you can either visit the Graveyard to gather some cobwebs or equip yourself a gathering knife and sheer some sheep. Either way you need to successfully make 1 thread before you are a true Weaver!!

I don't want to just weave!
Now that you have learned the weaving skill, its import for you to understand what effects weaving. Weaving is a Dexterity based skill so the more dexterity you have the more success you will have. With that being said every AP point you have is very precious so use them wisely there is no going back for now!
Tailoring is a great companion for weaving. You can use all the cloths you created to turn them into cutting edge fashion and protective armors for all your friends in Mabinogi.
Tailoring
Weaving is also affected by the skill Production Mastery. Production mastery increases the general success rate when you are making things. It is a helpful skill for any production based character in Mabinogi.
Production Mastery
Archery is also a Dexterity based combat skill and worth considering as a combat method that builds on the high dexterity of the weaver. So if you want to throw a splash of combat skills into a weaving character I would suggest these skills as the Dexterity the 2 skills sets give help each other out.
Ranged Attack Magnum Shot Arrow Revolver

I want to be a Master!!
In order to become a Master Weaver you need to get to rank 1 in weaving. This will require a total of 41 (AP) Ability Points.

6. Raising Your Character
In Mabinogi, you can learn any skill you wants, you just need to have Ability Point(AP) that's required. You can be either combat character, or Social charachter, or mixed. There's is no limited as you learning skills, but APs, So as long as you have APs, You can do anything you want.
Combat also can be splited by 3 categories. Melee, Ranged(Bow), Magic(ranged). But you can also be mixed.
Life also can be splited by several categories. Tailtoring with Weaving, Refinng with Black Smith, Playing Instrument with Composing, and so on.
Remember, you are raising your own char. You can be strong easier as follow some special guilde lines, or do whatever you want, like tailtoring or making potions or cooking or so.
It seems like almost everyone wants to have armors rather than clothes. But just to let you know, to keep it be able to use, you need to have lots money or earn lots money while using them. I have tested that if you are wearing Metal Gloves, Metal Helmets, Metal shoes, Metal armors, all Metal sets, You are costing at least 5 times you use just clothes(leathers). It is expensive to buy those, and to keep it(repairing).
And Also, You can enchant your items to increase your damage or status. So if you are going to enchant them, I recommend that enchant on items with long durabilities, and costing you non-expensive to repair them.
There are melee weapons, ranged weapons, gathering tools, clothes, metal armors, gauntlets, helmets, and else to wear
And lots of materials such as leathers, cobwebs, wools, and else to use for Life skills.
And Foods such as meats and fruits.
Your status can increase or decrease by foods, so eat them wisely
(Off topic - Why are so much of these plagiarized?)
Cooking - You cut, you chop! You boil, you bake... but what's that same error coming up to make you lose that five star? What's keeps causing that same feeling you get that makes you want to punch your character in the face? Your recipe of course!
Talk to Glenis (Grocery Store of Dunbarton) about Skills to begin
The Basics of Cooking
Cooking requires tools, and a good knowledge of percentages (Also, being able to estimate amounts.) When cooking, you either hold a cooking knife on your right and a cooking table on your left, OR, a cooking dipper on your right, and a cooking table on your left. (ON YOUR CHARACTER'S RIGHT AND LEFT). When cooking, you must know of recipes - the knowledge of what your food contains. Find what you want to cook, place your ingredients on the table, and prepare to play a mini-game. And that mini-game is.... OMGWTFUXBBQ ....math (Yeah... I know you want to take a break). You have to hold the "Add" button below one of your ingredients and begin estimating (Based on what your recipe says on percentages) how much to add with that one ingredient. When you think you're done with that one, move on the the next ingredient, and so on. Cooking at the moment can only house up to 3 ingredients per dish, and there are no such things as 1 ingredient dishes (Unless you want to make food waste.)
Experimenting with your food
You mustn't jump the gun. You will NOT become the five star chef you truly are by playing with your forks and knives, and saying "Fruit Salad time!" right at the beginning (You just won't get it.). You must first understand the basics of cooking - try out 2 ingredient dishes first. For example, Cheese Bread. You can try it with your first cooking set, right off the bat! It only takes Bread, and Cheese (Slices). Try out cooking, figure out for simple estimates like 80% would go, or "90% would usually be set around...". After trying out plenty of 2 ingredient dishes, move on. As you go, recipes dive deep into estimates, like, 46%, 23%. Yes. Fruit Salad is hard for a rising chef. If you just make even the littlest mistake, your 5 Star just might become... (drumroll) ... one star.
*Recipe Learned = Cheese Bread. Bread = 80% Slice of Cheese = 20%
Your Customers
Your customers - the main reason why you were born into Erinn. Your goal? Make them happy. You do NOT want your customers saying or thinking, "EWW! WHAT'S THIS DISGUSTING GLOP!?". Sure, you may toss around a few knives and chicken to keep their mood up, but is that want they really want? NO! THEY CAME FOR THE FOOD. THEY, want to taste what the five star REALLY IS. THEY, want to have the journey of tasting heaven, destroying 3 bosses at once, and maybe, just maybe, they'd want to see their-selves naked and dancing. Whenever you present your dish, have some pride on that little five star - don't give them 4 stars, it'll just make them fat and sad. You want them to see Nao around the campfire - that's your goal - CUT-SCENES are what keeps them chasing after you (Or maybe it's.. the stat boosts). For Nao, I suggest something easy, like Baked Potato. Only 2 ingredients, with a cut-scene.
*Recipe Learned = Baked Potato. Potato = 90% Pepper OR Salt = 10%
Funding for yourself
Cooking requires money. You need to buy that Beef, 1500 gold, for your steak that may just turn out wrong! 10 bacons and you still don't get it right! Awwww! Your cooking pot broke!!! You need money if you're a chef. You constantly buy repairs, ingredients, and possibly new equipment like another cooking pot if it breaks. You even need to buy books, every, single, level. You buy recipe books too! From my perspective, cooking is a very costly life skill, and you'll need back-up.
Basic skills - When starting Mabinogi you will get two starter skills, Combat mastery, and Sharp mind. Each one is good to master, but those aren't the only skills you can use. As you grow you will obtain better, stronger, and sometimes faster skills. There are three categories, life, combat and magic.
Life skills - The main life skill you need is rest, to get it, talk to the NPC Nora, rest is good for taking a break from fighting, but that's not it's only purpose. Rest will also slowly give you health, and there's a couple other purposes. The campfire skill explains itself, most of the way, you dont just make a campfire, if you have the rest skill, it will speed up your health points (hp) recovery. you can also eat food you bought. These are two basic life skills theres many more. such as: Cooking, Instrument Playing, Music Composition, and many more, there's so many, you could write a book about them all.
Combat skills - the two skills Combat mastery, and Sharp mind, are both combat skills, Sharp mind will help you see wat your oppontents planning, and if you dont know wat to use to counter it, then it will do it for you. There's another skill called Counter-attack, you'll wait for your oppontent to make a move, then once he strikes, if Counter-attack is fully charged, then you'll dodge and strike, but not only you know that skill, the other animals, or monsters, know it too, so watch out. to get combat skills, go to school, then you can get books teaching you skills, but you cant just read them, read it in advance to gain the knowledge on how to do the skill. You need smash to deafeat the first boss, but the NPC trefor, give you the knolwedge on how to do it for free.
Magic skills - Firebolt, Icebolt, Healing, these are all basic magic skills, Firebolt and icebolt, as you probably guessed, are bolt skills. Firebolt launches a bolt of fire at your oppontent, while icebbolt lunches a bolt of ice. Though you're probably thinking, 'well can you fire repeatedly?' well no you cant, these attackes you need to charge, though you can charge them up to five times each, there's a difference, with icbolt, you charge it five times and you can shoot five bolts of ice, whiles firebolt just makes one bolt more powerful. healing, as you might've guessed, heals you, but, you can also heal others, wich can help you get friends, wich will be later on on this book (if your reading it in book format).
Well, thats it, three skill types, and one happy person, i hoped this helped you out.
-Mabinogi player Sk8-
Ok, first of all, I'd like to start out by saying that here in Maginogi, there is no right or wrong build. The game doesn't revolve around characters who have their AP in specific skills or can only be played by all characters being the same. This is a game of skill and observation. You must know your opponent and be ready for anything they throw at you, and still be able to get back up and dish out your own surprises. With that being said, I'm going to give my version of a melee/magic combination character. These types of characters, Eldritch Knights as I call them, are balanced in melee AND magic, meaning they can fight up close and personal or from a distance, depending on what the situation calls for.
First and foremost, you must ask yourself one thing; Do you want to excel more in magic, or melee? It's possible to be balanced, but it will require rebirthing a few times, so to start off it's best to have a set goal. (Note: As said before this is not a requirement, as it will not hurt your character, it will just make spending the starter AP a little easier ) My first example of the build will give you an idea of a Magically Based Character.
Magic Based Characters
Skills
Magic Mastery - Being magic based, the first thing you'll want to do is to get your Magic Mastery as high as you can, as it not only helps your magic attack balance, but also increases your maximum MP ( Mana points ). Higher MP allows you to go for longer periods of time without having to use MP Potions to restore your mana, and this is significant for fighting. I'll explain why later, for now just know that this should be your main focus. ( AP Cost: Rank F~E - 1 AP, Rank :( C - 2 AP, Rank B~A - 3 AP, Rank 9~8 - 5 AP, Rank 7~6 - 7 AP )
Magic - Ok, this is your secondary skill(s) to focus on, being a Magic Based Eldritch Knight. You may choose to go with one magic spell or all three starter spells, Fire/Ice/Lightning. Personally, I took all three. This requires more AP and the spells aren't as strong, however, there are good reasons to do so.
i]Lightning Bolt[/i] is the fastest charging spell of the three, being able to acquire a charge after about 1 second, and has the ability to hit multiple targets ( Up to a Maximum of 5, which gains additional targets based on the number of party members who have the spell charged as well ), not to mention the spell can hit very hard at Rank F ( lowest rank for any skill ), and is the hardest hitting spell for a single charge, out of the starting three. The only drawback is that the spell has a wide damage range, being 1-40 damage at Rank F. ( AP Cost: Rank F~A - 5 AP, Rank 9~6 - 8 AP, Rank 5~2 - 10 AP, Rank 1 - 20 AP )
Icebolt is the second fastest and is usually well liked, and charges in about 1.5 seconds and even uses less mana to charge additional shots. You can fire up to 5 charges of this spell one at a time, unlike the other two spells. Also, the damage is more consistent and can do a great deal of damage if handled properly. The downside however is that, like Lightning Bolt, enemies with magic resistance ( Such as the Succubus in Rabbie Dungeon ) will just shrug this spell off like it was nothing. In fact, Icebolt and Lightning Bolt will have little effect on targets with such abilities. ( AP Cost: Rank F~A - 3 AP, Rank 9~6 - 5 AP, Rank 5 - 7 AP, Rank 4 - 8 AP, Rank 3 - 9 AP, Rank 2 - 10 AP, Rank 1 - 20 AP )
[ i]Firebolt[/i] is the longest to cast of all three spells. Like Lightning Bolt, all five charges fire at the same time, but they pack a punch. Not only does the damage of Firebolt increase with the number of charges you have, but even with one charge it has a guaranteed knockdown. Why does knockdown matter? Because being able to knock your opponent down gives you an edge and a couple more seconds to make that last decision that couple save your life. Since some monsters will be able to kill you with the completion of a single combo, having the ability to knock them down and throw them back away from you is a definite plus. However, with such power, there comes a balance. As I said before, this spell takes time to cast. In fact, it takes up to a full 2 seconds to cast just one charge. ( AP Cost: Rank F~A - 3 AP, Rank 9~6 - 7 AP, Rank 5~2 - 12 AP, Rank 1 - 15 AP )
Counter Attack - This handy little skill is something you should think about a lot since your character is based on magic. Not only does it pack a punch should an enemy hit you while you're in this stance, but it also increases your critical chance rate, and this also applies to your magic. But that's not the only thing that makes it so important. Remember earlier when I said having high MP was significant? Well here's a tactic that relies on MP and Sta to help you fight without even being hit. It's called Magic Counter. ( AP Cost: Rank F - 3 AP, increases by 1 AP up to Rank C, costing 6 AP, then starts at 6 AP at Rank B and increases up to 18 AP at Rank 1 )
Now, Magic Counter is a fairly easy tactic to get used too and when done properly, can do a ton of damage. All three spells have the potential to pull this off, so don't listen to people when they say that it can't be done with a spell as slow as Firebolt, they are wrong. However, this is easiest to do with Lightning Bolt or Icebolt, as they are the fastest casting and won't make you question your timing as much. What you do is, find your target, and charge your spell ( You can also use a melee skill such as Smash, but it's best to attack with your strongest hit just to do optimal damage ( ex: Smash for melee builds, Magic for mages, etc. )), once your targets is in range, blast him with your spell charge(s). Now, most targets will react about the same, but if your target has a ranged attack ( such as the Red and Metal Skeletons in Rabbie Dungeon ), then have another charge ready to hit them again as they will most likely choose to try and hit you with some kinda of ranged attack rather than run at you full force. After a couple hits, charge Counter Attack. Your stamina will decrease constantly until the skill is canceled or lands a hit, so keep an eye on this. Once the target is countered, DO NOT HESITATE, as soon as the Counter Attack skill bubble begins to vanish, tap your magic spell hot key ( whichever you want to use ) until it charges. Once it begins charging, have the wand positioned over the targeting circle that is around your enemy. Once charged, don't wait, fire the charge. Repeat this process and most normal enemies will hardly give you a challenge. There are other monsters however, such as Ogres, that have an AE, but fighting them isn't much different. You just have to cancel counter and get to a safer distance and bring it up again.
Now, as I mentioned earlier, some enemies such as bosses will have Magic Resistance and will not even be hurt by Lightning Bolt of Icebolt. However, Firebolt is handy in these situations because of the knock back. Enemies such as the Ogre Warriors in Barri Dungeon can be killed with this same tactic, but only if you're using Firebolt. Icebolt and Lightning Bolt will cancel the knock down they received, resulting in a full charge and a hammer to your face. With those enemies, it isn't the magic damage you rely, simply the knock back from Firebolt. The enemy deals the damage to itself through Counter Attack. So how can you tell if it has magic resistance? Well, when you hit it with a spell, you'll hear a DING sound as if it were guarding, and it'll light up blue for a brief second, and will then in some cases charge at you. This is why a good arsenal of magic is handy to have. You have Lightning Bolt for quick monsters like Wolves and other animals, Icebolt to open up with a 5 hit combo attack to lead into Magic Counter, and Firebolt to be able to counter those enemies that are resistant to magic.
One thing to know however is that this tactic doesn't work against ALL enemies, like Iria's giant field bosses, but it does work against almost, if not all normal enemies.
Combat Mastery - Now that you have some magic on your side, it's time to focus on secondary abilities. Combat Mastery increases melee damage as well as HP. As with all characters, HP has it's importance because it's what keeps you alive. It isn't AS important for this build because the focus is to not get hit, but there are times when you will, nevertheless, get pummeled. Also, this will help your other melee abilities that you'll want to get such as Counter Attack and Smash. ( AP Cost: Rank F - 0, Rank 1 - 1, increases by 2 AP each Rank following Rank 1 )
Smash - This is the first melee ability, other than Combat Mastery, that you'll get when starting the game. It isn't a requirement but does come in handy for certain situations, like when your party members want to smashmill an opponent. Smashmill means to spam your Smash ability on a hard hitting, high HP enemy, one person after another. The result in this tactic is that the opponent doesn't have a chance to get up, much less attack. This is risky however, because if the creature does in fact have a chance to attack, it's likely that the party will drop one by one. Smash itself deals considerable damage, starting at 200% of your own damage at Rank F, and ending at an insane 500% at Rank 1. The charge time is about 2 seconds, but you can move at full speed while charging, so it does come in handy. However, if an enemy is coming at you with a normal hit, you can't be successful with Smash. A normal hit will ALWAYS hit before Smash hits. A handy tip to know when an enemy tries to Smash you. ( AP Cost: Rank F - 1 AP Increases by 4 AP up til Rank C, then by 5, 6, 7, etc. up until Rank 1, ending in a required AP of 183 )
Defense - You'll learn this skill by doing the starter quests given to every character a the beginning of the game. It isn't too important to a magic based character, but it can provide some protection. Some enemies will cut through Defense like it wasn't even their, but they won't be able to successfully complete a full three hit combo, which could very well save your life in a clinch. Personally, being magic based, I wouldn't get above Rank F, but some of you may want to do so and that's fine. Like I said, at the beginning, there is no right or wrong build in this game, it's all about skill. The skill does, however, add to your base defense, so it is more suited to melee types than magical type characters. ( AP Cost: Rank F - 0 AP, Rank E - 1 AP, increasing by 3, 4, 5, etc. up until Rank 1, which requires 173 AP )
A melee focused build would be about the same, however, might have higher Ranks of Combat Mastery and Smash, and maybe even Defense skills. The only noticeable difference would be the damage in Melee and Magic skills when the two are compared.
Other Skills to Consider
Enchant - This allows you to enchant weapons and armor with various types of enchant scrolls received from chests in dungeons. They may add any stat such as strength, intelligence, etc., or HP and MP, or both. Different scrolls have different effects. If successful, your armor will get the properties of the scroll and receive a new prefix or suffix. If you fail however, your armor could receive a crippling blow to durability, so be wary. Most people get this skill after their first dungeon run anyway, as it is a beginning quest and the skill is very cheap in AP.
Healing - Not a required spell, but it is in fact useful if you don't have any healing potions. It only requires 2 AP at Rank F, and heals for 8 HP. It doesn't seem like much but it charges 5 spheres at the same time, meaning if used on a single person, will heal up to 40 hp per spell. It does cost stamina however to use on yourself, so be mindful. The downside is that it requires additionally more AP per rank, doesn't really increase in healing power except for 1 HP per rank, and requires a lot more MP per rank to use. At Rank 1 it'll cost a whopping 40 MP to use, heal for 40 HP per charge ( 200 HP if used on one person ), and requires a staggering 207 AP to learn.
First Aid - Some people will say that First Aid is a useless skill to have, but personally I've never been in a dungeon where it didn't come in handy to have. In Mabinogi, you can be injured, which stops the regeneration of health up to a certain point, depending on how bad the injury is. Using First Aid with Bandages, and making your target sit down of course, will heal these injuries, allowing health to be regenerate once more. It isn't required for the target to be sitting, as you can use it on yourself, but it does heal for more if they are. Also, like Enchant, it only costs 1 AP for Rank F, and that's really all you need. Maybe, later on if you have the spare AP, you can get additional ranks so you don't use as many bandages, but that isn't a requirement for a while.
Campfire - This skill comes from one of the starter quests, but also isn't required. You do however need it if you wish to start a fire, which can be used to burn enchantments off other equipment ( which destroys the item btw ), but it's also used to regen injuries or to cook and share food. Injury recovery is based on the rank of the skill though. It also makes a nice area to gather around with friends and just chat while you're not about running dungeons. The downside to this skill is that you have to chop the wood from trees, which requires an axe. The axe takes up space in your inventory, as well does the firewood. Other then that, it's an ok skill to have and only requires 1 AP.
Now as I've said before, there are no wrong builds in the game, however there is one skill that I sincerely recommend that you stay away from, and that's Sharp Mind. Yes, it sounds very appealing and like a great investment, but trust me it isn't. Even at Rank A, the skill will hardly ever work, and will most of the time leave you guessing. The best thing to do, is to get Rank F since it requires no AP, and just leave it at that. This way, you'll occasionally get a tip on what skill your enemy is using, but most of all, you'll learn how to tell what skill they are using just by watching the way they move. For example, if the enemy is using Smash, it will stand with a skill above it's head for about 2 seconds, and then it will run at you. For counter, they'll stand in one position. Sometimes for defense the enemy will stand still also, but most times if they are moving they'll stop running and start walking. If you know the enemy has an AE, keep your distance just to be safe.
So, now that skills are out of the way, let's talk about places to level. For the most part, following the quest lines from the beginning will be your best source of experience for a while, up until you have to fight an Ogre. The Ogre itself can be solo'd, but I recommend you have a party if you're still unsure of how to kill it at this point. So, usually people will get to black dire wolves and have problems, so at this point I recommend you run Ciar Beginner ( You can get the passes from Ranald ) and get used to your tactics and practice other little tricks you've learned along the way, and even ask others if they know of any that may be of help. The Mabinogi Guides and Tips section on the forums is filled with these, you just have to look. Once Ciar becomes too easy or the exp is beginning to slow down ( should be in your mid 20's for exp ), you're ready for Rabbie Dungeon. What? You say you've heard people talking about Ciar Normal? Unfortunately, that comes AFTER Rabbie Normal. Why? Because Rabbie Normal is meant to be solo'd. It does have a group instance also, but the final boss is different. In Rabbie Normal, the monsters ( Skeletons ) are easier than the goblins in Ciar Normal. The reason for this is because that skeletons will only attack one at a time, and are rather slow at doing so. The dungeon can easily be solo'd without dying multiple times, or even at all. Once you are able to complete this dungeon at least once, you should be more than ready for Ciar Normal. By this time you should be around level 25 or 30, and should have a good grasp on your skills, fighting tactics, and overall advancement of your character.
So I hope my guide helped you, and I hope you enjoyed it.
