Why does Nexon do nothing about cheaters?

    Most mods don’t do anything that effects others gameplay so does it really matter? Sure it is against the tos but nexon never puts in the initiative to actually catch and ban people for it. Most mods just let you view cp and things of the sort so I really don’t care if people mod or not.

    what about godmode? or what aobut mods that let you turn stuff like meat into dyes?

    Meat to dyes that is impossible. Many modders tried to change items into things such as 2x exp pots and dyes, but never worked

    These things are not mods they are HACKS. It seems like a huge amount of the Mabi forum goes can't get the concepts of modding and hacking through their heads.

     

    Modding: Changing very basic things (clientside) in game that only affect you. Could be your character model, the in-game text, or the picture/name of an item. These have absolutely no effect on anyone else. The easiest to recognize ones that are used in another game are Add Ons, those things in World of Warcraft that change how your map looks or add more info to items, yeah those are MODS.

    Hacking: Changeing things (can be clientside, maplestory vac hacks or WoW speed hacks, or it could be serverside which are the most dangerous ones but are usually stomped out very quickly) "god mode", vacuuming monsters, speed hacks,  or other such things that are detrimental to both the game itself and it's player base. These are the things that get punished in all other games.

     Glitches: These can either go unpunished or severely punished depending on how detrimental it is.  The gold duping and one of the "god modes" that were used are glitches. The blame of where the glitches originated from is fully on the developer/provider. Its up to players to inform the devs that there are glitches so they may be fixed.

    There are some " gray area mods" such as the mod that changes the model of mimic (which in itself wouldn't be bad if mimics weren't supposed to be hidden) ,  or defogging the map (while it is clientside it also adds some amount of advantage to the using it, even if it only affects travel in dungeons).

    Before any of you get up on your high horses and state "but the ToS states "While using the Service, you agree not to: Modify the Software, Cash Items or the Service to change "game play," including, without limitation, creating cheats and/or hacks or using third-party software to access files in the Software or Service;" I understand that mods are against the ToS. That does not mean I do or do not mod, but I do support the basic modding that adds more to the game while not ruining others fun. The ToS of anything is never written in stone and can (and usually is) changed through its lifetime.

    Well, the mod(Changing items while dead) didnt intend for people to abuse it and start godmode

    A huge amount of Mabi people are children/teens that don't get punished for being brats.That said, nobody cares until it starts affecting their enjoyment of the game.

     

    As of G7, the teleport mod that gives essentially unlimited friend caps by modifying the game client, is not only a glitch, but is also the equivilent of theft. Nexon suspends accounts that fraudulently charge paypal for nx, so these people just better hope that nexon doesn't charge them nx for all the friend caps they've used that they didn't really have. It's easily patched out on the server side (just check that the item exists before teleporting.)

    One such hack enables 20 cheats in addtion to the font hack. That same mod changes the client in a way that doesn't "hack" the game client at all, but instead rewrites the game code in RAM itself. Thus it's undetectable by nexon even by patching the the game. There isn't a way for nexon to break that hack short of hash checking the physical files, but there are ways around that too. If they want to completely break the hack with every update, they have to do actually change what data is sent to the game client to begin with.

     

    Range mods and targeting mods are client sided and that will unlikely ever be fixed, but Nexon could do more. Example, guild battle with hacked range (this is actually quite obvious, but I won't point fingers) and targeting (how is it that I can't target you while invulnerable, yet you and your pets can target me? hmm) It's also the same with the arena. If they wanted to "fix" these, they need to actually check that everyone that enters the guild battle and arenas has the same data (which would incur loading time) and nerf skills that don't match, or prevent them from entering altogether. Again, the extended zoom here is a cheat as well.

    The GM event was a good example of cheats that ruin everyones fun. Look who won on Alexina, spot the mod users.
