Okay, so I was playing mabi earlier today, like I normally do, when I got DC'd (right when I entered G3 Barri, too, which is a pain, but besides the point). So, like what normally happens when I get dc'd, the game thought I was still logged in, so I exited the client, waited a few seconds, and then opened it up again. I logged in, and suddenly got booted, and a message saying the game couldn't reach the server popped up. Just like before, it said that I was still logged in, so just like before, I exited the client.

 

All of this is...not normal, per say, but it happens sometimes. What's not normal is for my anti-virus program (my college requires that we have Sophos Virus Scan on our computers) to suddenly start telling me that "Virus/spyware Mal/Generic- A has been detected". I freaked, and had the program associated with it deleted, and then realized I had just deleted the whole game. And now I can't reinstall it.

I've tried the downloader. It didnt' work. I tried the "old fashioned" downloader. It didn't work. I tried downloading the game without the npc soundtracks. It didn't work. I tried attempting a manual download. It didn't work. I did a search on my computer for "mabinogi," deleted everything that came up, and tried again. Most of the time, once I download the game, my computer either won't let me open the file because of the virus, or it won't recognize it as a program that it can open. And all of this is after I authorized every Mabinogi-related file I could find on my virus scan.

Plus, now, every time I try to do a full download the "old fashioned way," my screen says "file not found." Is all of this because of the scheduled updates, and I should just try again tomorrow, or is there something I can do so I can play Mabi again?

ok well im not too fimular with that virus firewall/protection so i cant really even take alook at it because your trust issues anyways gl on your work i do belive you might have to set the installer as an expedition and same with the game.

Maybe Sophos has added it to the deny or blacklist after the detection of the "virus"? Also does the program have a recovery thing where it undos the deletion or a repair of a file that the program detected? Cause mine does. Btw, if it is on the deny/blacklist, just delete it from the list and try again and also a tip for the future, try to repair the virus first before making any rash decisions like deleting it and also different softwares may have different names for the equivilent of the word that your used to (E.g. Repair, other names could be heal, disinfect, clean etc) and distinguish them from the rest and learn what they do.

In fact the very reason why anti-virus softwares come with a system restore setting is so if things like this happens you can use system restore and voila, you can learn from your mistake, check to see if the software creates restore points before deleting the virus and if it doesn't, you could always just use a different computer.

I never said it was a good program.>.> the only two options it gives you when it detects something is "move" and "delete."

And I"m away at college. There is no "different computer."

Btw, basically, every time I manage to download the game, it says "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

try downloading to flashdrive because your computer dosnt have acess to write it becasue of the anti virus if you have a 2gig or somthing you can try.

Thanks to anyone who can help me.

The virus scanner might have blocked EHSVC.DLL which is the Hackshield file protected by Themida. (eg, it does something consistant with viruses.) You'll need to make the antivirus software ignore your mabinogi directory and where you download the installer, then reinstall it.

I downloaded a new anti spyware today and it did the same thing... It says that there's a malware when Hackshield was loading. I freaked a little but decided to just allow hackshield o-O; I just hope nothing stupid gonna happen to my laptop o_o;

This seems to happen with some anti-virus softwares but mine just identifies hackshield as an unknown file and I just press allow and nothing bad has happened since, I think you'll be fine.

Okay, so I turned off the scanner and was able to reinstall the game. But then, I was doing a scan, and even after I authorized Mabi, and every single file in the HShield folder, it still deleted the game. Can somebody please tell me what, exactly, is going on?
