Well, to start off several things affect your proficiency gains:
1) Day of the week - Thursday yields higher prof%
2) Your age - age 25+ gives the most prof% per attack
3) What you attack - You gain no prof% on things marked 'Weakest'
4) Your damage output - The less damage you do, the more hits you dish out meaning more prof per target
From then on it's mostly just picking a place that is right for you such as a dungeon or a field area of choice. The only 'fast' proffing is those guidelines and your dedication to proffing the item. Just if you are making a spirit weapon - I suggest using Edern in Bangor for repairs. Since if you lose more than 20% of the max durability, it is no longer Egoable.
