I was thinking that they could make a dragon pet that could fly and ride on like a horse and a eagle. But not too big, like the size of a horse? 

 they actually do already have a pet like that, though it's not a dragon, it's a Griffin and it's coming out in g10.  With the griffin you can ride it on land(goes as fast as a shire) and you can fly it in the airs(as fast as a pelican or thunderbird).
