I would apply, but I know that Hime is bias against me. Sigh. I'd love to be a weekend mod but... meh. I probably have no chance in hell.

Hi BeSmee, I have seen your post and things that you've done on these forums and none of it was THAT bad.  If you really believe you would make a good Volunteer Moderator, then please try to apply and give it your best.  You basically have the same chance as everyone else, as far as I know, I've never seen your account suspended before.

I hope everyone who wants to try to become a Volunteer Moderator applies, even if they believe their chances are not the best and are slim to none.  You never know what could happen BeSmee.  :3

No, not really. 13-year-olds may think they are mature but they are not.

I spelled intelligent wrong, lol.  ;~;  Anyways, I have met a very mature 14-year-old (only a year older!) before, the point is that you may not know any mature 13-year-olds but they do exist.

    ^^obviously never been a mod.

There is at least one response in this thread that demostrates exactly the point I am making...Lock that persons thread, and they will get beligerent beyond belief...the next thing you know, you are harrassed in-game, flooded with whispers and/or notes...I've even been followed around and harrassed in another game I player-modded.

    No thanks.

Ouch.. just gave me vicious flashbacks to when I was an in-game mod rather than forum mod for another game as well. I find it's best to ignore and mentally block out the ones griefing you for upholding any form of action/rule as you're simply doing your 'job' untill they get out of hand (which is when you begin to file harassment reports through ticketing). Granted, having a marker on the forums would be appropriate but could in-effect give unneeded 'stature', making things a bit rougher over time.

.. but hey, those who become one should already know/understand the consequences and so I wish them all the best. :)

Eek. Only found out about this this morning. I clicked 'send email' at pretty darn close to 9:00 PDT. (Noon by my time.)

I hope my submission is received in time to be considered! Confused

Hey, everybody! Time for your VFM Status Update!

We've collected the applications and are now on the second stage of reading them all. Essentially, we're reviewing everyone that's already proven themselves qualfied and trying to decide what our opening team will be.

    You heard right: Opening team.

After some discussion, Hime and I have decided to put the Volunteer Forum Moderators on rotation. This gives more people both the chance to contribute to the community and allows VFMs to take take a breather and prevent burn out. We hope you agree with this decision. Now, though, we have a question for you:

How long do you think is a good length of time for someone to be a VFM, before they are asked to take a rest from their duties and let someone else have a turn?

Thank you all for your help so far! We've received a great response and are excited for what's to come.

I think 2-4 weeks would be a good length.

I think a two week or monthly rotation is good, being a Volunteer Moderator all the time will stress people out so I feel this is a good choice.  My only question is, do they stay with the Volunteer Moderator team and just take a break?  Or do you have to keep reapplying to be a Volunteer Moderator all over again once your break is up?

2 weeks should be enough to prevent burnout and actually do something

Perhaps its my Corporate America experience speaking, but my suggestion would be once per quarter (3 months). I suggest mainly for creating some consistency within the Community, as opposed to "who's the VFM this week?".

Additionally, it would hurt for those that that might consider using this volunteer position as a resume piece (volunteer work is often asked for, especiall in the technology industry), a quarter is a much more substantial and typical length of time.

I do not think 3 months is terribly long, especially if it is a TEAM being "hired", and not 1-2 people in addition to -Hime- and yourself. The duties of a VFM are much lighter, compared to full Admins, Moderators or Customer Support, so there should not be as much stress to deal with, or one would hope. :)
