    Mabinogi and Mac OS

Mabinogi doesn't work on Mac OS does it??

Is DevCat ever gonna make it accessible to Mac?

I mean, when Mabinogi was only Asian thing, they didn't need to

but now that it's in NA, I think they should make one

I have a Mac and Windows barely runs on it...

I'm also curious.  Are there any plans future or otherwise for a release for MacOS?

    Re: Mabinogi and Mac OS

As a mac user, i too, want a mac os port, but I doubt it will ever be made. I see several reasons for that:

Firstly, as it was never planned to do cross-platform, making a port to _any_ other operating system would be very expensive in terms of cost and time. You could compare the process to making a client from scratch.

Secondly, by 2008 mabinogi is getting old (about 5 years), so that there is a sequel titled Mabinogi Heroes in Korea. Better or worse it is the next iteration and that makes rewriting mabinogi useless effort.

one could try using software like Crossover. I, myself, have a G5 iMac and the software for the intel's only, so i can't tell if it would work or not.

Should devCat used a more open standards and frameworks like OpenGL, making a port wouldn't be so much work as it is.....

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WHAT when mabinogi was a asain thing it made sense Ok look it makes no sense the Nexon and Ncsoft are both Korean countries (south korean) and they dont make games for mac South korea has the highest percentage of people with macs then people in the country. Shouldn't they have originally made it for mac when it was in Asia only. (i also want them to make it for mac)

    Re: Mabinogi and Mac OS

It's a little different in the US.  About 92-98% of the market share is in Windows.  Nexon views the mac having too little market share for the cost of making a mac port of games.

Really? That's funny. Every school computer lab I've ever been in, and  heck my entire college, are made up of Macs. It has to be more then you think. (I swear, the only PC you see on campus is the *occasional* student, and that's only 1 out of every 3 students)
Life isn't short, it's the longest bloody thing I'll ever do!

    Re: Mabinogi and Mac OS

Macs arent popular... and they only have opengl/ software rendering
Opengl is way behind in Hardware Acceleration... and basically everything (it runs at crappy frame rates and directx easily pwnz0rz it)
Software Rendering.... it overheats your comp/burns your cpu/is slow/is like playing deep-blue on a pentium/generating 10000 sines with a pentium....

In other words, they would have to port everything to mac-compatible...stuff (mostly graphics... the mac file system is also different right?...  Also, macs are... different from pcs in every way, GameGuard only works on PCs (not even on linux)... you would probably need different procedures for network protocals? idk if thats standard)

    Summary:
Wait 20 years, if that fails, wait 30 if that fails, 40

    Hai.

Really?  I've never seen any macs in server stations, or any ware else for that matter...

Macs aren't the best for gaming.  Anyways, for those of you with Macs, check this out: http://mabinogi.nexon.net/Support/View.aspx?boardNo=404&pageIndex=&contentNo=0002g   It should take you to the solution Nexon offers for Mac users.

CROSSOVER WILL NOT WORK lol reason being: Crossover can't run the client used for the anti-hack system. For some reason Crossover cannot install the GameGuard Engine into a Mac Operating System...I've tried several different methods...Mabinogi would run very well on a Mac if someone could possible make a Mabinogi install in which GameGuard was a secondary installation so that Crossover could create a seperate bottle for it...GG has a different installation format then the actualyl game client so if n e one took the time to extract it from the actually game installation then it would work...in other words

    GameGuard is no longer used.

I doubt you will ever see a Mac version. Windows should run just fine if you have one of the Intel Powermacs. If you are emulating Windows though, yeah probably not so much ;)

    Re: Mabinogi and Mac OS

i'm using my macbook to run mabinogi. i used bootcamp to load windows on it and viola. it works. just be wary about overheating and over loading the RAM. just try to only have mabinogi running and nothing else. it took about 3-4 hours to do because you have to load things and what not. but even though my mac isn't made for gaming the graphics are better and doesn't lag as much as my PC desktop.

    Re: Mabinogi and Mac OS

Another solution: Download the Windows 7 RC from Microsoft.com. Then burn a DVD (Search google how to burn it the right way.) Then follow the instructions on the boot camp install guide. That's what I'm doing right now and it works fine. Almost no glitches.
