    Announcing: Volunteer Moderator Program!
    Locked - Resolved

    Hi everybody,

I want to let you know that we will no longer accept applications for the Volunteer Forum Moderator Program. Hopefully we will be able to send out email notifications by the end of this week or early next week. Thank you.

    -Hime-

    -------

The deadline for the applications is on Tuesday, June 2nd at 9AM PDT. For those who have not submitted their application please do so by then.

    Thank you, Hime

    Hello, Forumers!

For a long time, the community’s been asking for ways to help out.  Well, we heard you, and today we announce the Volunteer Forum Moderator program!

    What are Volunteer Forum Moderators?

    ·         Volunteer Forum Moderators (VFMs) are members of the Nexon community who choose to invest their time in helping to improve the forums by setting an example, reporting forum issues to the Moderators, and locking threads that they feel should no longer be available.

What Special Abilities would a VFM have?

    ·         A VFM is able to lock threads at any time, given that she or he feel those threads are inappropriate.

    ·         VFMs will be able to access a forum where they are able to present player/game issues and discuss program-related topics.

What can a VFM –NOT- do?

    ·         Ban:  We will not be giving this ability to members of the community, as we feel members should not make decisions about another member’s account.  Anyone that feels a fellow forum member is in need of disciplinary action should the “Report Abuse” function.

    ·         Get free passes to abuse their privileges:  If you feel a VFM is misusing their role, please Report this immediately. We will investigate this and determine what action needs to be taken.

    ·         Yodel while underwater:  That’s dangerous. Don’t even try it. Surprise

What should I know before applying to be a VFM?

    ·         There is no schedule. We understand that you have other priorities, and this is a volunteer role. If you need a break or have either responsibilities, we understand.

    ·         Your account must be in good standing and you are expected to set a good example from your applying forward.

    ·         You will get free cake. Smile

    ·         No, you won’t. Sad

How does one apply to be a Volunteer Forum Moderator?

Enclosed is a copy of the Volunteer Forum Moderator Application. Copy the entire form into an email, and answer all the questions. Send the email to [removed]. Please make the subject line:     -Volunteer Forum Moderator- <Forum ID Here> . If it does not have that subject line followed by your name, your application may be lost. Serious applicants ONLY.

    Anything else?

It is our hope that this program will help those wishing to give back to the community the chance to strengthen the quality of the forums. We appreciate that we have players that we are willing to take part.

Enclosed is the application. Good luck, and thanks for your time!

    Volunteer Forum Moderator Application

Nexon Forum Volunteer Forum Moderator Qualifications

To be considered for the Volunteer Moderator program you must meet the following criteria in addition to completing the application.

    -Criteria-

    1.       The applicant must be an active positive, member of the community. This means the applicant visits and posts 3 to 5 times a week across all forum aspects. Posts are constructive and/or contributing to the community. S/he demonstrates experience and an understanding of the game and game community.

    2.       Forum account and game accounts must be in good standing. If your forum account has been previously temporarily banned, you may still apply for the program. You will need to explain later why you were banned and what have you learned from it. Your game accounts must not have any prior history of abuse. Any found history of abuse will be an immediate disqualification.

We still encourage everybody to apply if they are not exactly sure where they fit with Criteria #1.

    -Application-

    Forum ID:

    Other Alternative Forum ID(s):

    Main Nexon Passport ID:

    Other Alternative Nexon Passport ID(s):

    Full Name:

    Birthdate:

Nexon game(s) you play and in-game names (for MapleStory you can list your main character and the server):

Game forum you wish to moderate (give 2 choices):

    Answer the following questions:

    1.       How much time do you spend on the forums? How many days a week? How many minutes/hours a day?

    2.       Why do you want to become a Volunteer Moderator?

    3.       What do you feel you can bring to improve and guide the community?

    4.       If there was one thing you can change about the forum community what would it be? How would you do it?

    5.       Have you been previously suspended from the forums? If so, what was the reason? What have you learned from it?

    Scenarios

    1.       Forumer A has made a thread on the forum asking for game advice. Forumer B comes onto the thread to tell Forumer A s/he has bad grammar. Forumer A posts back angrily grammar does not pertain to the thread topic and indicates to Forumer B not to post if s/he isn’t going to help. Forumer B returns and they both go at it. Forumer C posts to tell both A and B to calm down. What do you think it’s the appropriate course of action or do you take no action at all?

    2.       Forumer D creates a thread calling Forumer E a hacker. There is no solid evidence on Forumer E besides a personal video montage that may be questionable depending on who views it. What do you think it’s the appropriate course of action or do you take no action at all?

    3.       A troll has appeared on the forum and harassing other forumers. He managed to get forumers to flame back and create multiple threads about him/her. What do you think is the appropriate course of action or do you take no action at all?

    4.       A new patch has added some controversial content to a certain game. Several players have created threads voicing their opinion on the matter. While each thread has a similar subject line, the Original Post in each thread has a truly different perspective on the situation. What do you think is the appropriate course of action or do you take no action at all?

    5.       A new exploit has been discovered in a Nexon game. Forumer F posts it on the forums, including step by step instructions to repeat it. He then posts pictures of other players doing this exploit. The tone of the post is that it wishes the GMs to be made aware of and take appropriate action against the exploiters. Forumer F explains sternly that they have only done this once on an alt. account to verify. What do you think is the appropriate course of action or do you take no action at all?

    6.       Forumer G creates a thread entitled “New Patch SUCKS!” In the thread, the forumer lists, in bullet point, everything they believe is “Wrong” with the new patch. Their response is well worded, precise, and validates its own points; it also contains several references to Nexon being lazy and forum members being “suck ups”. The post ends with the threat to quit. What do you think is the appropriate course of action or do you take no action at all?

Again, copy the entire form into an email, and answer all the questions. Do not post your information on the forums. Send the email to [removed]. Please make the subject line:     -Volunteer Forum Moderator- <Forum ID Here> . If it does not have that subject line followed by your name, your application may be lost. Serious applicants ONLY.

So, "volunteering" means not getting paid $9 per hour, but giving moderation, so we'll shut up about not being moderated?

Lol, I have a feeling this has to do with the walkout threads.

Disclaimer: I can't leave Nexon NA, because I can't type Japanese.

    :I Good job, (non-sarcastically).

I'll  be moving to dA's forums, til' this blows over.

I'm sure they're not gonna hand moderation over to it's 13-year-old community.

Actually, I'm going there cause there's a lot less restriction there. ._.

While I would love to help, I'm curious if it would be obvious to forum participants who is a Vmod? Its been my experience that playermods (of any kind) become instant targets...and can ultimately lead to quitting a game/forum, because of fellow player abuse. I don't know if this can be answered here or not, but

    1. Would we have a 'label' (like the "honored member" button)?

    2. If chosen, would it be possible to create a new account to Vmod from?

    I see no reason why VPM's shouldn't get a label. :\

I don't think age really matters, you could be 13 and a very mature, polite and intelligent person.  I think that's why they didn't put a age limit on the requirements.  :D

Confetti's right. There are plenty of 13 yr olds who are polite and kind, it's just one of those things you may not expect.

    Ps: I'm 13 ^-^

    ^^obviously never been a mod.

There is at least one response in this thread that demostrates exactly the point I am making...Lock that persons thread, and they will get beligerent beyond belief...the next thing you know, you are harrassed in-game, flooded with whispers and/or notes...I've even been followed around and harrassed in another game I player-modded.

    No thanks.

I think this is somewhat a good idea, people usually take titles the wrong way and either look up to you or find you abusing your powers.  If the Volunteer Moderators were not labeled and people didn't know who they were.. well, that would be interesting.

But then again, you are expected to be involved and active with the community, even without the title, people will figure out that you are a Volunteer Moderator because you are locking threads, etc.  And without the title, people may mistake anyone for a Volunteer Moderator and that might lead to bad things.

So, I'd have to say, having the title/label is beneficial more then it is a problem.
